Beacon Bay, East London.

So all the way to Cape Town (+- 1,000km) then to Joburg (another 1,400km) ... at least that is what I can make of the trace route.

This is strange indeed, perhaps the routing is getting a little confused :( Have you ever noticed this issue before?
Please drop me a PM, I'd like to check things out here for you.

Hmmm... performance still erratic. :(
Speeds very inconsistent. Not getting anywhere close to my usual line speed of 8mbps.

As for local routing.. I'm not sure how it works. Where is myBB hosted , looks like Jo'burg Hetzner ?

For overseas I would imagine I connect into Cape Town first and go via WACS and swim with the western coast tide or I'm I suppose to go via Durban then EASSY does it ?

BTW you have my details... eargerly awaiting my bonus gigs .. that is if my account qualifies :)

I really don't mind swimming with CPT sharks as long as they are not OOB. :p

This looks to be exchange related :( The latency on the 2nd hop (your exchange) is too high which would affect the rest of your throughput.
Could you run another one from this morning to see if the issue still persists?

Wasn't the news I wanted to hear ... ;) but will do and let you know early this evening.

EDIT: Found this on Afrihost Network Status. Could it be related?
Low Impact

Opened: 11:43 Thu, September 19, 2013

Our Network Engineers are noticing increased latency on our DSL network. We are currently investigating this and do not currently have an official report on the cause. This may affect real time services which depend on low latency such as gaming. At present we believe that general DSL service will still remain close to normal levels. We will post more information as our investigation progresses.

Hi Afriman...I am located in KZN and have bad download speeds...even browsers battle to open smoothly. I know you guys have some tipe of problem, but have you manage to locate it as yet?
Personally I think MTN Business sucks...have seen this before on other ISP's....

We're doing our best to see the high load on our network sorted out, it has seemed to have gotten better throughout today.
Could you PM me another traceroute a bit later tonight to see if things have changed? I can also run some tests from there.

I see a few intermittent hops on the trace, but it's hard from one trace to get a good picture of where latency comes from. In general your trace seems to be mostly OK.

Usage seems to be stabe;, so Durban wasn't as affected by demand issues as Northern and Southern region. We'll need to run a few more tests to see if the issue is on the line or somewhere in the network routing.

Please PM me when you can and we'll run some tests!

PS Also assuming you are on a Capped account because you're posting in this thread. Correct?

Wasn't the news I wanted to hear ... ;) but will do and let you know early this evening.
Rgds,

EDIT: Found this on Afrihost Network Status. Could it be related?

Probably not related to the Network Status. Your second hop from the exchange would have been perfect, but latency would have shown up inside our network around our IPC breakout point.

While the demand issues caused some speed and latency issues - day to day Telkom issues would still also have been lurking around (as they do) :(

PM sent. Still seeing issues. Line maxing out at 5mbps, and no issues apparent at hop 2 anymore. Latency is showing up later on at hop 8.

Thanks for the PM - I have replied. We're seeing everything start to settle down now. For most service should be pretty much back to normal in terms of latency. Capped DSL should be pretty much normal - only Uncapped users may still be shaped more than usual.

Could you please check into the above for me? I usually get about 8mbps on my 10mb line...

I'm going to try a port-reset from your side...maybe things will be better...

REGARDING THIS POST...I DID A PORT-RESET, NOW EVERYTHING SEEMS 100%...:)
