Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

With all the issues I've had, I also need to announce the good. I'm downloading the new OS X, and getting my full 1000kb/s. I'm looking at about just over 2 hours from start to finish!

But isnt axxess also owned by AH? Will the 'issues' be contained at AH?

I have an Axxess "backup" capped account that I have been topping up and using daily ever since this Afrihost rubbish started, since end of August... and the Axxess account does not "degrade" or drop packets or any of this Afrihost "contented" one fifth of line speed optimization nonsense. Axxess has had a couple of wobbles these past two months, but still remains completely usable.

I have done tracerts on both accounts, and the Axxess one is OK, whereas the Afrihost one has latency issues, lost packets and timeouts.

Same parent company, same MTN backbone, but it just works where Afrihost just bombs.

Maybe Axxess does not have as many Apple device owners as Afrihost... probably none really... I would guess.

Thanks, as I'm now only saving a wopping R18 after the unpublished price increase for the 100Gb+ 100Gb at 20mbps bundle from R744 to R806 for shoddy service, I'm moving my data to Axxess.

I have downgraded the large capped account with single ISPs to smaller capped accounts with many ISPs... and now switch between them when things begin to go south and top these up when the 10GB or 20GB is reached on them. Not as convenient as a single large capped offering, and more expensive, but the ability to instantly see through the support bull**** about Telkom, line, equipment etc. when line speed issues and such arise makes up for this in the long run I think.

My Afrihost 200GB has been downgraded to a 10GB account it is now going to go down to a 1GB account end of this month... the rubbish and spin around this current issue is enough to put me off them for a while. I cannot believe the gumph and their sheer arrogance when confronted with client issues and their refusal to even officially acknowledge that their network is a big pile of bork currently.

Afrihost used to work nicely... it used to fly, support has always been more of a pro-company propaganda mouthpiece than any actual real help, but now just reading the responses some clients have been getting, nonsensical badly spelled grammatical poo in most cases, I really have to wonder just what is happening in Awesome(TM)JoyLand lately. Intravenous kool-aid is now needed just to tolerate the new levels of spin and blatant disconnect between what clients are told, what clients are experiencing and the Oprah Winfrey emotional gush that seems to define management and the company. Touchy, feely, trust and all that jazz. Its an ISP for crudsakes, not a charismatic movement!!

People here on mybroadband where calling for IPC upgrades in July... deny deny deny, blame iOS 8, deny deny deny, monitor and optimise, and only when the wheels completely fall off the cart, then the little map goes Medium Impact orange.

10meg capped

As has been pointed, we did unfortunately have a significant jump in our network utilization during the course of Friday, my own Capped account was not close to running at full speed.

Things do seem to have improved for now, my speeds seem to be close to full again. If anyone else if having issues with their accounts, you are welcome to let me know here, or via PM.

:)My 4 mps line is back to normal this morning. Let's hope it's back for good.

I'm moving my data to Axxess.

If you in Cape Town don't bother - it's equally shocking esp for streaming from about 7pm.
Use another ISP. But not VOX because that's worse at the moment for some reason.

I'm still not back to full speed. It has definitely improved from yesterday but I still occasionally have to sit and buffer videos.

I realise I probably shouldn't be complaining since most people here don't seem to have VDSL available but if I'm paying for 40mbps and I know I can get 40mbps, then only getting half my speed isn't exactly ideal.

For the most part our network is able to cope under the current load, but we are still seeing occasional spikes in bandwidth demand - usually in the early afternoon and early evening - and this causes issues as speeds then drop for everyone. :(

These jumps in demand are difficult to predict, and are quite problematic, as I am sure you have seen.

You have every right to be disappointed, you should be seeing better performance from your ADSL line, and I hope that once our upgrades are finalised, we can get you back up and running and the speeds you should be getting.

Seems like it's back to unusable tonight. Adobe Flash player has been taking 45min to download.... and I think it's like 17MB?
