I posted earlier in this thread about my bandwidth disappearing... while at work.

Found the culprit - it happened again on Saturday... I had bandwidth monitors installed on all PCs - which showed very limited usage.

My cellphone was with me, and the iPad was flat - the only other device was my 2012 Nexus 7 - I don't know wtf its been up too, but I enabled wifi data reports, and its used almost 50GB this month ... on a 16GB tablet.

Checking the application that used the data... Google Services....

Glad Nicholas was able to help :)

Remember SNR refers to Signal to Noise. When copper cable degrades and noise level starts to increase, this will increase the risk of disconnects. SNR is a ratio, so that value is hardly ever static, it will fluctuate slightly (or greatly) depending on the quality of the line, the distance from the exchange and other environmental factors (usually to a lesser extent). This would affect all traffic, so affecting protocols individually is a little strange. I can only think that where latency is affected streaming could be more affected than other services, but that's the opposite of what you've reported, so it's a little weird to me.

Maybe we need to look at this a little closer :(

Could you open a line fault for me? Cannot connect to again today, also can't connect VPN either. Streaming and stuff seems to be fine though.

EDIT: Scratch that, sites are loading slow as well now. (just came home, so hearing this all from others in the house)

Woah, that's a bit odd :( Maybe it's polling for Lollipop upgrades or something? That's a lot of data though!

Sure!
Drop me a PM with your line number and I can have the fault setup for you :)

Just wanted to add: port reset helps for a little bit and then it doesn't for a while. The VPN connection has fixed itself, but other things don't work, but that was the same as yesterday. Could you somehow comment to ask for a port change or something such as that?

I'll do my best. Taking a look at the line now, will reply to your PM in a few mins if I have any questions :)

That's sucks :( Did you manage to grab any tests when you saw this take place?

I usually only go on after 9, and the packet loss affects me because I play League of Legends. Its pretty intermittent, switching over to another ISP account seems to resolve the issue. I know its not on my exchange as I have had telkom look into this.

Problem is at that time of night, its kind of difficult to get hold of anyone.

I'll PM my details if you want to look into it and see if there is a problem on your side.

Okay, just putting it here: was on webafrica a bit, 20mins in, having the same problems. VPN down, LoL not able to connect to pvpnet but browsing/streaming is working fine.

So it is not isolated to your accounts for me, so line issue, if you would open it for me.

EDIT: After 9 minutes it is able to connect again.
EDIT2: And 5 seconds later, failed.

EDIT3: Swapped back to Afrihost and working fine again.

I think it might have something to do with backing up the device to the cloud getting stuck in a loop... its the only thing that makes sense to me :/

Thanks, I see you PM'ed me a bit more info too. I'll follow up with you there :)

Any reason for particularly slow (>200ms) JHB latency?
Did I miss a notice?

International is fine at <200 and CPT I'm getting +/- 50ms.

Haven't yet tested with alternative accounts or ran any traceroutes etc.

Hoping this is a temporary, known issue...

First time I've seen this reported, the network is looking solid at the moment too :)
Once you've run the traceroute could you paste it up here please?

Thanks.
Just checked again using www.speedtest.net directly, 12ms to JHB, no problem :)
The slow local latency is only apparent when testing from speedtest.mybroadband.co.za

That sounds a little better. When it spikes up again, please run a traceroute so we can see where the latency is being introduced :)

Oops wrong thread

Hey, if you have a valid question - there's no such thing as the wrong thread ;)
