Morning Capped Peeps

Just want to repeat what I;ve posted in other threads. We are aware of the Yosemite update release. The file is about 5GB and we'll be watching closely to see if there is any overall effect on the network. Since we haven't received our IPC upgrade as yet, we'd like to ask that if as many people can schedule the download for a quieter time on the network (preferably overnight) then this will give everyone a better experience under the circumstances.

Have an awesome day :)

Ok AfriMan I really need you to sort out my account. I've just tested with the Telkom guest account and I'm getting good speeds with that. Guess which one is the Afrihost account...

I've been patient with these speeds for the last 3 days. Time to sort it out...

definitely a huge difference between the results there. We sometimes see the Telkom guest account perform well because it blocks other traffic except to Telkom, so I think we'd need to test further.

I'd also like to know which region you're in and see a full traceroute and tests at different times of the day.

Could you drop me a PM?

Ok here goes: 20mbit ADSL

First three tests from a backup accout:

Three tests from my Afrihost capped account:

It's not horrible, but not great either. Also, some sites fly, others really struggle.

Defintiely not terrible, but could be a lot better. I think we should see improvement as soon as our IPC goes live.

My experience with my own 20Mbps line is that the sync often drops and varies constantly, sometimes as low as 12Mbps, so that would also be worth looking into.

Until get our IPC, there will be a gradual impact in the mornings as we build up to peak (around 8am) and then a period where the network settles as we start shaping Uncapped accounts.

Once we have the additional IPC we'll see this become a lot smoother and impact will be less evident.

And the service degradation begins.

38Mbps down to 35Mbps.

Dropping like a Bomb...

Almost a 50% reduction at the start of the work day!

7.5Mbps...

Can I point out at this point that this is a 81% reduction in an Hour...

I call this Contention a reason to communicate directly to your clients.

Ok, 3.3Mbps, Must be the Yosemite.

Hey AfriMan, Did AH request permission to Cache Yosemite or is that against Apple/AH policy?

Exactly the same trend on my side. Down from 39mb/s to 3.6mb/s. Awesome!

Still have no clue when it will be resolved, but who are we anyway? Eh, just the paying customers.. So nobody important in the eyes of Afrihost.

Dammit
The amount of complaints coming through for this product is shocking.
The more I read the more I'm being turned off switching to AH capped.

Has anyone been refunded accordingly?
To me, it's basic business to refund when your customer is paying full price for something that is not being delivered as advertised.

Well, relieved I'm not the only one - Came to this forum just for this.

I've been paying 10Mbps @ 200GB Capped prices for 2Mbps for almost two months now with AH.

There's no 'contention' in Afrihost's billing department, I can assure you...
