This is on my 10Mbps line with afrihost capped 100, used to get a nice constant 8.5Mbps.
Pretoria area.
Youtube even buffering.
Time to get me a WebAfrica backup account.
Pity I moved my line to AH, putting all eggs in one basket

Sorry to hear you're seeing slow speeds, the line move wouldn't have caused this though - this is only an admin change.
How long has you seen these issues for now?

I know i'm just stating the obvious here and reiterating what has been said, I'm downloading Yosemite and using my Afrihost account the ETA on my 20Mbps VDSL line is 8 hours, on my Vox account it has taken 50 minutes...

I am not suggesting the line move has anything to do with the poor performance, moved my line many months ago.
I have noticed my connection being slow for al least a week now. I normally only use my account after hours (8pm onwards). Since I am on extended sick leave I am playing some games (planetside2) and have been rather disappointed with the performance.
I get the same type of throughput downloading from nzb (150bps - 300kbps). Thought it was temporary, still hoping it is.

Edit: Now I registered myself a webafrica account and compare this:

Ouch! 2.2 on Afrihost and 9.2 on Webafrica....
Seems like I need to log a formal ticket?! I AM GOING TO

And another one for good measure on afrihost to make sure I did not find a bad time

I just spent an hour messing around with my 10mbps line, my current 'crapped' account with Afrihost & a 1GB Free account from Axxess... Nothing major changed within that hour except for details programmed into my router. Afrihost capped account consistently performed badly... YouTube unwatchable in 1080p HD and if left on auto settings constantly knocks the quality down to 240p/360p... Sometimes 144p... Axxess free capped account allowed YouTube to be watched nearly flawlessly on 1080p HD and had zero issues on every other resolution. Torrents are CLEARLY being SHAPED/MANAGED/PLAYED WITH/BUGGERED WITH/WHATEVER TERMINOLOGY YOU'D LIKE TO USE on the Afrihost account as they do not perform well and only get to about 1/5th of the line speed... I used a recent very well seeded torrent for the test. The Axxess 1GB Free account allows me to achieve full line speed on the exact same torrent without any hassles at all... I remember chatting to AfriMan/AfriGuy a few month ago about this... We were told to be patient, and I have been patient now for at least 3 or 4 months... My patience has however run out and I've cancelled my account with Afrihost as I see that customers are STILL being told to be patient... AfriMan/AfriGuy, I don't expect a nice happy farewell from you. Don't do it... Just tell the big boss that if the greed continues from his side, and he continues to insist on not investing in the additional bandwidth which is DESPERATELY required, customers will continue to leave... And something else, just look at the number of replies/views on/of 1) The Afrihost capped thread on MyBB, and 2) The Axxess capped thread on MyBB... The fact that the Afrihost thread is generating the 'interest' which it is generating is not a good sign... That's very clear to see. Anyway, I'm done here... Enjoy the weekend.

This is just from the last month!

I also think it's important to note for the people who are calling for IPC upgrades across the country to cater for updates. Upgrading IPC is a major financial commitment, and those costs need to be absorbed. If we simply added more IPC without similarly increasing revenue, by raising our fees, then it's not a sustainable solution. IPC is not a topup we can do in ClientZone, it takes months of negotiation and planning, whether it's to add new IPC or to remove IPC that is now no longer required. To add capacity for a one or two day event is simply not feasible, and is more likely going to have long term cost implications for our clients, whether it's increased pricing or just the inability to drop our prices (which is something we're always trying to find ways to do).

What happened a few weeks of complaining later???

Yes, we've placed the order with Telkom and they now need to come in and install the additional capacity.

ALSO...

As for our noticeboard, the orange indicator is for a Hosting issue, this isn't related to our DSL network at all.
and
Quote from your own Afrihost Technical Network team...not the call centre guys:

Me: why does your network status then show green lights?

Afrihost: one moment let me check with my colleague here

....AND TODAY!!

Note:This is not because of hosting issues anymore.

Well since you're "on the ball", when are these updates due? Because you'll have a plethora of losses in customer base and the stupid loyal bastards like myself will be hanging on and supporting in hope that you get your act back together - So when can we expect to go back to normal?

They're going to lose a lot more people if it isn't resolved, or if there isn't a definite date given, come the end of next week. Most people I know are holding out until the 25th before cancelling their Afrihost accounts, because doing so prior to that won't make any difference...

Youtube is buffering like a biatch on my 10mbps account and line, not really impressed hey... Mr Afriman sorry to complain but it does seem to be a wide spread issue.

Aaahh, so next month we should be fine again if half the people leave? :)
Can't wait as the service is shocking at the moment.

17 October 2014 10:00am We are seeing increased demand in the North region (Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding areas), which may affect DSL performance for clients in the region. While affected clients may experience slow speeds, we expect latency to continue to be stable for priority realtime services such as browsing, streaming and gaming. Our engineers are working hard to ensure that we provide the best possible experience and we will continue monitor traffic throughout. We apologise to affected clients for any poor experience and wish to assure them that we have ordered additional capacity from Telkom, and the upgrade is imminent. We believe this will make a significant improvement to performance and DSL experience will return to normal.

Hey guys

Really sorry about the poor throughput today, I know it hasn't been great. Saw some improvements yesterday but looks like the demand is spiking again :(
Upgrades are imminent though, so I'm sure we can put this all behind us really soon!

I'm afraid your definition of imminent differs quite a lot from mine.

For an 8Mb line this is not exactly good either. Really sad panda today.

Good Day,

I trust that you are well.

We do apologize for the degraded internet experience you are getting at the moment.

There is a high bandwidth on the network that is affecting all accounts and as a result clients are getting limited speeds when using their accounts. This is due to a network congestion and we have ordered new hardware in order to relieve network pressure and once this has been installed your speeds should return to normal.

Please feel free to let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Please have a great day.
