I assume that is for uncapped?

But we are in the capped thread...

For a non-technical layman like myself, would you please elaborate on "radius data" ?

No, this is for all accounts. Obviously Capped and Business are on an unshaped profile, so that is checked.
Radius data involves authentications and session info, how much data is passed etc.

We reset the authentications, look at radius data and make sure the correct shaping profile is applied.
Line checks are also done.

We are meant to be on Unshaped accounts, what then is the "shaping profile"?

Edit:

Was answered whilst I was Typing, please Ignore.

Hehe, no stress :)
All traffic runs via shapers, Capped/ Business are unshaped so that profile is applied to that product.

So all traffic is run through your shaping system, just that business and capped are on the unshaped profile. correct?

Yes, all DSL data is run like this.
So your connection goes like this:

  • Router makes a connection via Radius
  • Radius says details are all good
  • Traffic routes via our IPC
  • Packet signatures are identified per account

Obviously this is a very broad overview.

Dont you think it would be a good idea, so have some kind of transparency in the control panel where a user can see what shaping profile they are on?

I think on business its there? (never had a business account) but I know on a shaped account its not there.

Why dont you guys make it visable to all accounts? Though read-only on some accounts of course.

Shaping information is available on the ClientZone. Capped is always unshaped, it isn't displayed on the ClientZone as this never changes.
It's displayed on Business as there's an option for Business Optimisation.

If you were a paying customer, would you be happy to accept this at face value?

I think transparency in this day and age is crucial to keeping customers happy.

Seeing as Capped accounts are always unshaped, what harm would there be in displaying this status on the client zone? Just to give customers peace of mind.

It would also be one less thing Afrihost would need to check when troubleshooting when something is wrong with the account, just in case the wrong profile is applied accidentally, for example. That would be something that the customer would look at first!

It's probably something we can look at, but from signup the account is marketed as unshaped 24/7 - so it's pretty transparent from that level. So piece of mind from our end is that we won't shape Capped accounts.

I think its something that you guys should look at. I mean, what is there to hide? Nothing right? I would even go as far as saying that its something already in the client zone, just enabled account type specific. Should be pretty simple to roll-out.

If something is advertised as unshaped I think there should be a point of reference where the customer can login to their account and see that it is indeed what it was sold as... unshaped.

Dont take this the wrong way, but it would also add some credibility that Afrihost has lost over the last weeks. I've seen a number of people in this forum alone that are throwing around accusations that Afrihost are indeed shaping capped accounts. This would shut them up?

I've passed the feedback onto our Dev team to look at adding this.

I appreciate your assistance.

As most are aware I have moved away from Afrihost entirely after 5 years of being a loyal customer.

However as promised I am willing to move a line over to afrihost for testing to see if I can be treated as a loyal customer again.

My request is as follows.

If I order a 20mb/s line my exchange can handle up to 40mb/s

Will I have a working pure internet joy user or is your network still having issues?

I do not want to move if you are still experiencing unresolved issues as it seems atm.

I'll do my best to have the ticket attended to urgently.
Regarding your line, if the exchange/ MSAN can support the speed then our accounts will be able to support it too.

I sure hope you are right, because this thread will receive hourly trace routes speedtest etc if that is not the case.

So then 20mb/s capped it is
