Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

On PS4 as well, BF4 actually shows you when you have packet loss. With Afrihost I see it with every game. Hardly ever with WebAfrica.

:wtf:

We've been trying very hard to get games to run smoothly on our network, it is disappointing to hear about your experience so far. Could you possibly send me your username for your ADSL account, and would you mind if one of our Team - who specializes in gaming - contact, if there is something on the network causing this we'll definitely want to investigate.

"The Federal Communications Commission (USA) today voted to enforce net neutrality rules that prevent Internet providers—including cellular carriers—from blocking or throttling traffic" The penalties that will be imposed for breaking this rule are harsh.
Wish that our regulators had the balls to implement this here! Maybe then local ISP's would have to stop trying to befuddle us with double-speak like 'Shaping' (so favoured by AH) and hiding behind one-sided, (theirs), FUP's.

I think you are confusing Afrihost with Mweb.

Afrihost has by far the most transparent AUP and absolutely pure capped accounts.

I had massive packet loss issues, switched to the uncapped WA account on Saturday evening and haven't had problems since. So ill can my AH capped account end of this month

:(

If I can help with anything in the future, please let me know.

You guys know that your website is down? I was trying to sell you to a colleague but then your www would not load when he tried to access it...

Thanks for letting me know.

The site is definitely up at the moment, some of the pages are loading a bit slower than normal, our Server Admin Team is working on getting it running normally again.

Thanks for the traceroute!

I should have feedback for you momentarily.

EDIT: Apologies! I just need one more bit information please, could you please PM me the IP address that you have been assigned at the moment. The quickest way is using this Link.

IP is 41.164.178.180. The site is loading now.

Thanks for the update, it looks like there was something strange going on with some incoming IPs, the Server Admin Team made the necessary changes to ensure this does not happen again.

Anything wrong with smtp.afrihost.co.za? Can't ping it.

Hi!

smtp.afrihost.co.za is definitely up and running at the moment.

It has been configured to not respond to ICMP requests, this it primarily to prevent it from being DDoS'ed, that basically means it will not respond to Pings, even if it is working.

+1

Had huge packet loss in CS:GO and on Teamspeak last night (up to 35% in some cases). It is not my account because everyone using Afrihost had the exact same issue. Packet loss has almost always been present for the time I've been using Afrihost which is about 2 years now. If it carries on I'll definitely be moving on.

The packet loss you experienced is definitely not due to any bandwidth limitations or shortages, so we'll definitely need to investigate. When this happens again, can you please run traceroutes to the CS:GO server, as well as your Teamspeak server, those results will help us a lot in figuring out where the issue is starting.

Were you seeing any other drops in speed? Did you notice any other services such as Streaming being affected.

I will get some trace routes running if I have the opportunity to mid game. There were no drops in speed at the time as far as I know and streaming was pretty normal for Afrihost standards :)

Thanks!

I am sure if there is something wrong on our end, we'll get it resolved!

Hi there,

I just switched over to a capped 200GB package and everything is working well except for Netflix, unfortunately. It works perfectly fine on my other backup 1GB Web Africa account but for some reason takes ages to load on my new account and sometimes doesn't even load at all. If anything could be done about this, that would be excellent.

Thanks!

Hi!

Which web browser are you using for your Netflix viewing at the moment? We've had a few Clients experience problems using Chrome, switching to FireFox or Opera seemed to get the stream running smoothly immediately.

Which Proxy DNS service are you using?
