And it only happens during peak times? between 5/6pm through to 11pm?

Hmm.. Sounds like the same thing people were complaining about on the forum during the last IPC issues in November.

Similar yes, but not the same cause that much I can promise you. The IPC is not even close to running at full capacity during those times in the South, and if it even starts to come close, we just start to shape the Uncapped accounts.

BrendanMC and Masik3R are reporting latency to specific services, there connections are running fine apart from those odd spikes in latency and packet loss to those services.

Dont think its an IPC issue. When we had the IPC issue my download speeds went for a ball of Shizz. My downloads and browsing is all 100%. Just packet loss when playing games is crap. Specially LoL.

None whatsoever. And it seems im not the only one having issues with it. Like i mentioned earlier, it seems to be something on the MTN network, since, as i mentioned before, switching over to Axxess results in the exact same packet loss.

On Battlefield 4 on PS4 I get the Packet Loss icon (below) on just about every game even though my pings are generally fine (240ms). This only happens with Afrihost. On WebAfrica I only get it if I have congestion at my exchange.

CS:GO MM servers are hosted with MWEB and TS is gameservers.com. I experience packet loss on all TS servers I join, in some cases (on local servers) I get up to 40% loss with ~20% connection quality - switch to WebAfrica and bliss? I don't think there is any more explaining to do. This is during peak times. This morning there is hardly any loss.

Also bear in mind this issue has only got really bad these past few weeks. Before then there was almost always a hint of packet loss but not nearly as bad as it is now.

I used a WebAfrica account as well and there was no difference compared to Afrihost, the CS servers run as crap with WA and AH.
It only last for 30min - 1hr though, then everything is fine again. Usually somewhere between 7pm - 10pm.

We're definitely not anywhere close to having IPC problems. At the moment we're seeing demand well within range of our available capacity.

As I've mentioned, we need to be very specific around where packet loss is occurring, otherwise it will send our engineers on a wild goose chase, which means the issue is resolved much slower.

Exactly which servers do you experience packet loss to? If you can give us IP's we can test and replicate.

Sorry, I asked about the server, I didn't click on the PS4 mention.

Can you see any packet loss elsewhere on your connection?

Sounds like that could be congestion during that time. That is generally a peak time for urban areas in terms of DSL traffic.

What I am saying is, if we can't replicate your issue, then we need to figure out what is happening on your network that causes you to have this experience. If it's not happening to every single user, in a predictable way, then the circumstances must be another common factor, other than just being on the MTN network.

So the team testing on the Xbox One have been testing in Cape Town (where most of the problems seem to originate), playing peer 2 peer games like FIFA 15 over Xbox LIVE in the evenings after 6PM when most people experience the issues? Cause that would be a way of replicating the issues.

Hi Afriman!

See the issues from last year around the same problems:

The Battlefield 4 PS4 servers for Europe region (best pings for us) are hosted by i3D in the Netherlands. Their IP's are 173.199.x.x

Actually, we have a guy in Cape Town testing on Xbox specifically, and so far he has not reported the same experience as you. Not sure which games specifically, but most Xbox Live games use the same P2P aspects.

At a time when the network is saturated, then one can expect packet loss. That is definitely not the case now. We never said there was no issue, we acknowledged the high demand and that we were trying to improve the way the network handled demand until we got more capacity. Right now, we can see our capacity is well within the range it should be for optimal experience, so I think the symptoms shouldn't be the diagnosis. We need to do proper troubleshooting.

I'm not sure the issue is with capacity, as my speed tests en even downloads run fine! Latency is also okay between 240-260ms. Somewhere on the route there is packet loss.

That's the part we need to determine. Where is the packet loss? Becuase if we're looking at our network and it's on a peer network or the hosting network, we're gonna be chasing our tails for ages :(

My Internet in PE just died. Light was green but no-one was home, in the middle of a telecon :) Restarted and now have the dreaded red light... I suspect Authentication on Telkom's side?

Our modems in PE has also just died. So not an Afrihost specific issue.

I don't see a notice on the Telkom notice board but we'll check it out as well.
