Pretty odd. I think when I've tested Netflix I've used Chrome and Safari - I'll admit it's been a while since I last tested.

Is there any way to test if you're on the US or UK server/store?

I'm using the US Netflix.

Yeah, same thing when I switched to Vox.

+1 internet died around the same time on both AH and Vox. Seems better now but lots of buffering on streaming video so not 100% yet by any means.

Fire in CT killing something ? There were also fires in PE today ...

Could be. We saw a lot of reports of 041 and 044 numbers having problems but we had no official confirmation of a Telkom outage.

Is everything normal now?

AfriGenie, I sent you a PM last night about the packet loss issue and there has been no follow up. I have 30% loss on TS at the moment and I've been playing CS:GO with loss for the past week. My mates on Afrihost are all having the exact same issue. And from the complaints here it is NOT the specific server or my specific account, it is a GENERAL issue. I am so utterly done with this nonsense.

Am in the same boat, have PM'ed Afriman and he has been responding. CS is near impossible to play in matchmaking on some nights for me. Packet loss ranges between constant 20%-75%. Switched over to a spare WA account last night to play and was perfect. Gonna see if I can run some more diagnostics tonight to maybe provide for information to them.

:( Definitely not cool to hear!

Masik3R is in the process of running some tests for us, it will help a lot if you don't mind running those same tests. I can PM you the the details if you are interested.

Can do :)

Hi Guys.

I've been having speed issues for like 2 weeks now. Speed averages around 600KBs on single threads.
using a download manager helps for downloads but I don't always use a download manager.
YouTube sucks and buffers often. Wasn't like this before.

I have just tested my Telkom account versus my Afrihost account and this is the results.....

Speedtest.net:
Afrihost CTN - CTN CTN - London
Download: 4.55MB's 5.27MB's
Upload: 0.84MB's 0.72MB's
Latency: 28ms 171ms
CTN-CTN : http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4190913954
CTN-London: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4190907454

Telkom CTN - CTN CTN - London
Download: 14.90MB's 12.25MB's
Upload: 0.84MB's 0.78MB's
Latency: 27Ms 200Ms
CTN-CTN: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4190928637
CTN-London: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4190928637

My Router Asus DSL-N66U Stats are:
DSL Modulation ITU G.992.5(ADSL2PLUS)
Annex Mode ANNEX_A
SNR Down 8.9 dB
SNR Up 6.5 dB
Line Attenuation Down 26.0 dB
Line Attenuation Up 1.8 dB
Data Rate Down 17919 kbps
Data Rate Up 1003 kbps
MAX Rate Down 22376 kbps
MAX Rate Up 1008 kbps
POWER Down 0.0 dbm
POWER Up 9.3 dbm

Why the huge download difference ?
I'm now using my Telkom account and its performing much better.
Please help.

Have you been getting those speeds consistently on your Afrihost connection? There shouldn't be that much of a disparity between the connections.

Could you send me a PM with your ADSL account details so that I can check on your account and make sure everything is running as it should.

Hi AfriGenie

Thank you for contacting me.
PM sent.

:)

Can someone advise what could cause this?

Line speed fine this morning...noticed some stutter earlier, switched to different ISP as a test, full speed no issues, switch back to Afrihost and still the same as it was. Not too sure how it all works but surely they should be similar on the same line?

:wtf:

Those are definitely off... Would you be able to post a traceroute to Afrihost.com? I have a feeling that latency is causing the drop in speed, and I'll need to see where it starts.

An update on the packet loss situation:

Tested with visual route last night when I was experiencing loss and it didn't pick up any loss to the server. I was however getting 5%+ loss permanently on both TS and CS:GO. Mates on Afrihost experienced exactly the same thing. Changing ISP accounts fixes it.

Capacity issues incoming?

Tested on my side last night as well and got similar results. Visual route showed happiness but CS:GO showed pain. The other guy in the server was also with Afrihost and he said he had the same.

Definitely not a capacity issue, if it was your real-time and download speeds would also be in the tank. I've asked one of the guys in Critical Care get a copy of CS:GO and to look into this, this is definitely a strange issue.

Would you guys mind posting exactly which CS:GO and Teamspeak servers you are connecting to.

Yup, IPC maxed out between 5pm and 9/10pm.

What Afriman etc fail to understand is certain forum members aren't normal members of the public, We work for certain government organisations whom you buy IPC capacity from, So we know whats going on with your IPC capacity.

So your story about the capacity all hunky dory. We're not idiots, so stop lying to us.

Do tell ghostR!

Telkom, whom we purchase our IPC capacity from, do not monitor or even pull reports for ISP's IPC capacity.

I also want to point out, if we aren't using all of our IPC capacity, we are wasting capacity and the funds invested in that capacity. Our system dynamically monitors how much of our IPC we are using, so if there is additional capacity available, we unshaped our Uncapped accounts to allow that available capacity to be used. Then, if we start hitting our maximum we shaped the Uncapped users P2P and HTTP downloads to ensure that the Capped and Business Uncapped users - and real-time services for Uncapped - receive the proper priority that it needs.

It's in the screenshot ;)

Or if you want to look up the server in the game it's the 1v1 AIM Intoxicated JHB server.
