Same excuse every time to keep stringing us along - your team were working on a network fix about a month ago... so they're still working on it now too?? You guys need to hire better network guys because a month is bad... very bad...

It isn't a coincidence that people are having pretty much the exact same types of issues...

Morning everyone

Seems like the majority of the posts last night were from the South and we know that this network is experiencing high demand and periods of contention (or more contention than we'd like) due to additional P2P traffic on the network. We are looking address this with several updates and we expect this to take effect over the next few days.

From me reports I can see a serious increase in latency between 8pm and 10pm last night, so that indicates that the network was not at it's best and realtime services especially may have suffered and we may have seen some packet loss as well.

Our team have been made aware of these issues and they are factoring this into their action plan to get the South performing at optimal again.

I did go home, but AfriGuy wasn't around.

It could be possibly due to high demand that the iOS download was slower. We did also see high latency so it makes sense, particularly between 8pm and 10pm in the South.

We don't shape Capped accounts, but they could feel similar to shaping when there is more contention that we'd like on the network :(

We have the best people out there, from SA and internationally, working on this. I don't think it's a question of a lack of skills or knowledge. It's a complex system and there are some difficult variables, I don't think I would want that job.

Our CTO is personally overseeing the work and he is making sure we do it efficiently, effectively and the team has every resource at their disposal to get the job done.

No the mac update run full speed only the ios update was slow

Every morning/week/month the same old story for how long now! When one thing is fixed another one breaks, and so the circle goes on and on...

Did you not test the system properly without implementing it first, now your clients are the paying guinea pigs for the past few months! And they are unhappy!!

Unless we take the network down for several days, I don't see how this is possible. There is no test that can mimic a live environment and we do as much offline testing as possible in controlled, replicated environments, but ultimately we have to deploy and monitor and either roll back changes or make additional fixes as we do that. It's always a tough decision whether to roll back or push forward, and it's always done with the client's experience in mind. Roll back to a known issue (and start from scratch and risk repeating that) or build on what works and monitor and test for what doesn't to be fixed in the next roll out.

Prediction 09/04/15

Shortage of IPC capacity.
Blaming iOS 8.3?
Denial for months by AH reps.
Admissions of lack of IPC capacity.
Months to resolution.
Rinse & repeat x 6 months later.
ISP of the year 2015.

Don't forget the Free Windows 10 downloads that will bring Afrihost to its knees!

We should have Windows 10 locally cached and available when it is released, so hopefully this won't be that much of an issue. :)

That is true, but before you implement such a big change to your environment you to do Proof on Concept tests, stress tests in a lab environment etc. I'm really concerned by the approach Afrihost has taken to this massive change, especially considering the the outcome. And then you have admitted that Afrihost do not have the inhouse skills to maintain and troubleshoot the system.

On another note, you keep pressing that Capped accounts do not get shaped, BUT in the eyes of the user contention causes the exact same outcome! Call it what you want, but your clients are unhappy and spinning technical jargon at them is not taking away the fact that they are not getting what they pay for!

"We hope" is still not "We will", Afrihost seem to thrive on hope these days!

If I seem like a disgruntled client, I am! Being with Afrihost for half a decade and then get messed around from month to month after still accepting my full payment, give me enough reason to be.

We use certified networking vendors for both our hardware and software, so when it comes to maintaining and running the network itself, there is definitely not a lack of skilled or knowledgeable personnel.

I can't deny that there have been hiccups, at times, but there has definitely been an all-round improvement, and we're pushing hard to make sure we continuously refine and improvement network performance.

We definitely try not to spin technical jargon at any time, but if at any point you feel we are obfuscating anything, please let us know!

I used "hopefully" in the sense that I cannot predict every single thing that will happen when Windows 10 is released. We will take every precaution possible, and make sure we cover as many bases as possible.

I'm not happy at all that we couldn't provide you with a type of service that you wanted, if at any point you are willing to give us another chance, please send me a PM, and I'll get you a decent-sized test account at no-cost to you.

I do appreciate the gesture, but I need more than a few days of things being "better" before I come to Afrihost. The only way I can see that is by keeping an eye on this forum. The majority of the issues are still in the South (so am I), so when you start getting positive feedback for more than a few days or weeks, I'll reconsider. I must add that by that time the Double Data deal is perhaps gone as well, so then there might not be an incentive for me to change back.
