Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Wow, Afrihost support is something else.

Upgraded my 1gb package to a 150gb package at the start of the month. I put in a cancellation for the end of the month as I just wanted to test the account.

After a few days, I noticed my data was disappearing. Turns out, free time data was being deducted from my capped account during midnight and 8am. I log a request on the 13th March (at this point, all the data has been used) and after probing daily, I get a response today (almost a week later) to say I don't get access to free time because I am on a 1gb account. WTF... I paid for a month of 150gb capped data....

I actually have my line with them as well, but it looks like its time to move.

Well, your DSL Line rental with them is going up by R20 (4Mb and above) as of 1 April, so if your line is 10Mb or less, you're actually better off moving it back to Telkom. Not being able to deal directly with Telkom when you have a real problem isn't always a plus.

Pretty shortsighted of Afrihost in my opinion. Instead of a blanket price increase, they should have put more strategic thought into it. I mean, their 2Mb lines are actually MORE EXPENSIVE than just sticking with Telkom now. lol

Even their DSL data prices aren't particularly competitive anymore. Really not giving us much of an incentive to stick with them. :(

Didn't even think of their increase. They have an amazing client portal, but thats about it. Actually can't believe that a company that was once so good at support is now so bad.

Anyway,Im interested to hear what they have to say.
 
So apparently when you downgrade to 1gb account, you lose all free time privalages, even though you have paid for the bigger capped account in full.

Isn't this illegal? Surely free time should apply until the 150gb capped account is fully used up as that is what I paid for?

Your 150GB account should remain active until used up even after requesting the downgrade. I've received your PM and I'll take a look into what happened here. :)

Isn't it only active for the month it was subscribed too? :)

This is precisely my expectation. But free time data was being deducted from my 150gb account.

Im not expecting any free time data with the 1gb account.

You cannot expect to receive free data on an account that is closed.
 
I have a question. If I upgrade to a 20Mb DSL line, I assume it'll initially be 20Mb over ADSL. Who would I contact to get that switched to VDSL (subject to availability of course).

My line is also currently managed by Afrihost.

If you have a VDSL modem, just request the upgrade to 20Mbps, then drop me a PM and I'll have our Openserve Service Manager switch you over! :)

Not necessarily, but good chance, yes. Do note not all exchanges support VDSL. And as AfriGenie said, talk to him.
If you can get VDSL instead of ASDL, always go for it, it's more stable, higher upload and slightly less latency by 1/2ms, no negative trade-offs besides the modem cost.
 
I see my R99 subs has now become R110.. I know the whole Vat increase, but my invoice still reflects the 14%.. i havent followed much, but has there been a price increase, besides the Vat thing?
