Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

For the last two weeks my browsing and streaming has been very poor and getting worse. Download speeds are fine but web pages are slow to load and when streaming tv it takes ages to start the stream but once it gets going then it streams ok. Here are a couple of test results:
Tracing route to 8.8.8.8 over a maximum of 30 hops

From the tracert it seems that there is a lot of packet loss.

Any ideas anyone?

We're not seeing latency or packet loss in general on the network.

* on your trace may not always indicate packet loss. Depending on the TTL, it could be that the router in question is busy and chooses not to respond. An MTR is usually more accurate.

We'd need to do some more troubleshooting here :(

Hi, thanks for the response, please advise any further testing you need me to do to help solve this.

The quickest test would be to test a couple of times (at different times of day) and see if it's consistent. also, if you have another ISP account, to switch accounts and see if you get a totally different result.

Tried with my webafrica account and the tracert looks much the same i.e quite a few *
Just noticed in my router status page that the snr is showing 8.5 down and 8.0 up - it definitely used to be better than this. Attn is ok at 27 down. Do you think this could be the cause of my problems and should I log a fault with Telkom? You actually manage my line but in the past I have always logged faults myself and had good service from Telkom.

Anything over 6dB shouldn't really be causing you any serious trouble. Please PM me your line number and I'll run some tests on my side too. :) Perhaps logging a fault is in order.

Thanks, pm sent

Does anyone know how to report an adsl line fault to Telkom without phoning them. Tried their online reporting system which used to work fine but now will only let you log a fault if you use Telkom Internet as your ISP.

If your line is managed by Afrihost, we can log the fault for you. If you;re chatting to AfriFella on PM, he can sort that out for you

Thanks, I'll pm Afrifella again and ask him to log a fault for me. Does seem ridiculous that I can't log a fault with Telkom myself unless I have Telkom as my ISP.

So I pm'd Afrifella an hour ago to ask him to log a fault but had no response so I don't know if a fault has been reported or not - could someone let me know what is happening.

I'll ask him to check his PM's. If the guys on MyBB duty, they usually check their PM's a few times a day, but not constantly :(
