Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

16 minutes later - And I'm still waiting for that same email from "myself"@afrihost.co.za to arrive at the SMTP server at the datacentre in Newlands....buggerall.

I'm not sure how we as the ISP would be causing the DSL line to drop. :( I really do need to follow-up on this, can you please PM me your account details quickly so that I can check what's going on.

continuous packet loss will cause connectivity problems on most protocols - what I've been telling you guys now for days...

Telkom says its not them, their line is syncing properly, the datacentre says all is fine on their side (I've spent another morning with them checking that end), all the hardware here has been tested as well - the ping is perfect, the SNR etc are fine...the packet loss remains...

Answer just this - what on these IPs can cause packet loss?
Who do those servers belong to?
What is acceptable packet loss for all DSL accounts on AH as ISP?

I definitely need to follow-up on this, I just need your ClientZone details please. Out of curiousity, what sort of result do you get if you ping bras.afrihost.com?

155.239.255.250 ping 26ms 5% packet loss

Finally got a ticket no CJL-463-62222

I'm sending your ClientZone support guys another email again - just waiting for the attachments to load. Which is obviously taking a while. Email has 500K attachments to go with it. Could take a while.

Cant reply via gmail with attachments - the attachments aren't uploading to gmail.com from here due to the persisting problem...

The email I sent out to Afrihost support (**** *) via afrihost.co.za cant reach the SMTP host at Afrihost. So its still lying in my Outlook inbox...trying to send at this current time. I've switched antivirus outgoing email scan function off on this device - but it clearly makes no difference.

Anyway I've had enough of this cr*p for one day.

I've received your PM, I've sent you a test account, I please need you to switch to it please and see if there is any difference with regards to packet loss.

As per my message to you packet loss was still high even with those login credentials.

Your support team replied to my afrihost email that eventually went through to them at 7.34pm.

[#ZBU-811-20862]: ClientZone - Support Request : ADSL Tue 2018/06/19 at 07:36 PM ....so thats 3 hours for one email to try and get from here to your SMTP server. I can fly to Johannesburg and deliver the email in person in less time.

This is the current results. Packet loss 100% at last hop.

Maybe AH is over subscribed for its available infrastructure and bandwidth? All I know is I cant carry on like this much longer - this costs me money (loss of income) every day...

Zertop's LineTool Results
Date/Time: Wed Jun 20 09:21:59 CAT 2018

Basic Report:

Your packet loss was 3%.
Your average ping was 12ms.
Your maximum ping was 14ms.

You seem to have some packet loss. This indicates an issue on the line.

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be running perfectly.

It seems that your maximum ping is also good.

If there are any issues, they most probably lie with your ISP

interesting - what I've been saying for days.... ;)

Now consider the common denominator between Afrihost and Axxess.

Yes its been going on for a while now, it gets really bad at night. When testing with WA account it goes to normal. We did have problems with our exchange for a while but thaty has been fixed last week. The config on the msan was incorrect and allowed only a 120mbs bandwith for the whole town...ouch. Now that is fixed I can see there are more problems on the Axxess\Afrihost as well as Vox. No packet loss on Vox but there are some high latencies at night. I can no longer game on any of these ISP's except for Web Africa

Do you maybe PM me the screenshot of the test results, the formatting on the results makes it difficult to read when I send it through to our Network Team.
