Hi

Hoping someone clever can help me out.

I have just signed up for a 100gb package from Afrihost on the Cell C network with a Huawei B618 Router.(fixed wireless)
They promise speeds of between 10 and 50.
I had speeds of upto 20 but it drops off to close to zero where at some point I cannot do a speed test (Ookla)
This will happen for a few hours and then at some point revert back to 20 download and sometimes 17 upload.
I have had the router for 3 days now. I am in the catchment area on their map.
I have asked to speak to a supervisor at Afrihost with no luck. I tried to cancel the contract and send the router back but they tell me I am locked in regardless of the download speeds whether they are 20 or zero.

The 3 green led`s are all on showing good signal.

Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so did they manage to resolve it with or without the help of Afrihost?

Al

Who promised the 10-15Mbps speed?
Probably poor throughput in your area. I'd recommend contacting Afrihost.

Hi IOPS

I did phone Afrihost. They gave the usual response of reset the router. Alas with no difference. Tried to get a supervisor who could explain it but they would not allow me that oportunity. On their web site it says speeds of between 10 and 50. I still have a 2meg line with them. Sure I can understand that it (line speed) might fluctuate but those speeds cannot be said to be fit for purpose. My main concern is they will not allow me to cancel the contract without paying another thousand Rand. I have already paid R900 odd for the router and the R500 for the first month.

Their message to me on activation was STRAP YOURSELF IN FOR HIGH INTERNET SPEEDS or something to that affect. I would say its more like THE HANDBRAKE IS UP AND THE AIRBAGS HAVE DEPLOYED.

I'm fairly sure a supervisor would say the same thing.
Maybe try another network? I get excellent results with MTN both at home and at work. Cape Town CBD hits around 70Mbps.

I have been trying to view their packages on their website, but the links don't work... no use signing up with an internet company that can't even sort out their own website.
