I'm no longer an Afrihost client, but I still allow them to send me marketing material because despite their network problems, they do have good promotions.

However, what I realised today that really stood out for me, was Gian's use of plain text emails formatted to 80 columns with no complicated signatures. It was also written in a straight forward manner that didn't make me try play marketing lingo bingo. It was like reading a proper business email from the golden years of email.

I really wish more people used email this way, instead of sending a 1 line email with a 20 line sig and 5 different images, one of which is an advert for some new product their company is pushing. I don't plan on switching back to Afrihost any time soon, but I am extremely willing to allow more of Gian's emails to filter into my inbox and try convert me, just because they are simple for my brain to parse quickly and easily.

He does have a nice way of writing an email

No he doesn't. The last mail they sent about migrating the line was pure sht.

I wanted to take up the offer, especially since Gian said in a Verimark tone that it will only take 48 seconds or something. It didn't.

When I couldn't manage to complete the form because of a validation issue on their Clientzone, i decided to reply to this Gian's email. Needless to say, no response. Don't pretend to be the actively involved CEO if your mailbox is just a no-reply address

They kinda annoy me. Pretty sure I've unsubscribed before.

Their expired card notifications are even better - no unsubscribe button...and you can't delete the fkin expired card without adding a new one. Mate...I'm not even in ZA.

Stupid thing...just going to mark all their mails as spam in gmail now.

That was yesterday's email.
This is what I received this morning.
Code:
RAD

It's a word we use around Afrihost that stands for Remarkable, Amaze and Delight. It's what we try to be and what we try to do.

So here's our attempt to RAD you:

We are doubling your GBs.

For free.

No catches. No tricks. Just some freshly-baked, extra GBs for you.

Your Double Data has already been added so you don't need to do anything. You can log into ClientZone or open the Afrihost App and you will see your extra data there, patiently waiting for you to get stuck in and enjoy!

And we'll be giving you Double your Data every month till the end of the Year (31st Dec 2016) at which time we will review the way forward.

Thank you for being our client

Enjoy!

Gian
CEO, Afrihost

P.S. In addition to Doubling your Data every month, any of the GBs you don't use will carry over to the next month for you to enjoy at your leisure - So you don't need to worry about losing any data if you don't use it all each month!
I checked and sure enuf, I now pay R99 for 200 GB :)

Yup, Gian to the rescue just as I was considering the attractive capped packages Webafrica are offering.

Happy Camper - thanks Afrihost!

Is it not R199? I am on 100gb home capped for R199 a month, now it's 200gb since this promotion.

Well I've always had a 50+50 capped for R99, as according to my Clientzone I have 146 gigs left for the month as I've used around 50 gigs so far so it seems right, or am I reading it wrong.
Maybe you right though it's a lot more than I can use, so maybe I drop to a lower package now :)

Hell to think in 2003 I used to pay Telkom R326 pm for my 512k ADSL line and Mweb R599 for a 3 Gig capped account.
Things have come a long way. ;)

Definitely changed for the better :)
I still remember being super excited about Telkom introducing R7/ call - which meant dialup would be R7 for that call. Winning!!

I find them hilarious. The soppy tone used in most of them, more than anything else.

i know they mean well but those emails feel like those get-rich-quick affiliate schemes floating around online. They're a corporate, behave like one - no need to act all friendly and buddy buddy when you and i both know clients are just numbers.

Cant fault their ADSL service at all. Excellent value for money, always changing and improving so i guess we gotta let the emails slide :D
