Afrihost FAIL : It's not uncapped it's 200gb account

Perhaps you should consider this new spate of uncapped accounts a move away from the "per gb" model for SA and not as a ticket to rape as much as you can and then you will see that they are quite reasonable. Now your mom and dad can get pay R200+line rental so about R350 for internet and not have to worry about topping up, changing accounts, etc etc.
Remember that 3gb used to cost the same amount.

Yes because when they point it out you get idiots who say well then it is not uncapped is it?

So how do you go about telling people your uncapped accounts have a limit, some idiots confuse uncapped with unlimited. Very easy mistake to make because the words look so similar :D.

uncapped, it's a bit like medical aid... the users in the pool sustain each other. just like there is no such thing is rollover data and non roll over data, but that is a story for another time... right xdsluser ;)

Hopefully this scares off all the people who download > 200gb per month, so this great offer can be sustainable.

200gb per month = approx 571 hours of divx. Thats about 20 hours a day.

Either it's uncapped or it's not. Uncapped and unlimited are synonymous.

A lot of companies use this whole wording confusion in a disingenuous way. Be honest about what you are selling, is that so hard?

200GB is plenty. Maybe when more capacity comes online the fair usage limit will increase. I'd hate to have really slow uncapped because someone maxes their line 24/7.

They are "reserving the right" which doesn't necessarily imply a fixed limit. If heaavy downloaders are not affecting the service in any discernible way they won't exercise the right. But the fact is, that to enjoy an uncapped service all of us have to apply some self control. Hoarding tons of content on your hard drive for "the end times" is totally pointless. Its like using all your living space to store food. Download only what you need when you need it.

the op does have a point. some of the people are quick to forget what happened on the sol matrix case where they would also state uncapped and they had to remove their product in accordance with ASASA's ruling.

have a read.

Already contacted ASASA ;)

False advertising is false advertising no matter how you look at it. SA probably has some of the worst consumers in the world.

They have to put that there incase it is used. Mweb is not going to cut you off at 100GB, its there so that IF the pawpaw arrives and the lines are so badly saturated for whatever reason then they have the right to disconnect the people over a certain limit to allow the greater users to function properly.

We live in a world which has created a loophole for everything, and lawyers willing to jump out at first mention of a "breach of contract". So companies have to put clauses in to cover themselves, the same way we all pay taxes for unlimited use of the roads. But go park your car sideways accross lanes of the N1 - and guess what, it will be forcibly removed - because of the needs of the many, AND your vehicle registration states that you are still subject to the laws about the roads, even though your use of them is for all in tense and purpose unlimited.

Explain uncapped to me please. Wow this is a really sad post. For 99% of the population the accounts will be uncapped for the 1% who feel the need to download more than 200gb they will cancel your account (not cap it) cancel, there is no false advertising here.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Or go top up with WA at 200 X R69 instead. R13800 > R197 if you fail to see the difference. Hey at R197 you can get yourself a few uncapped accounts.

So if you are the reason for the removal of this product then Im sure a few of us would love to come visit you to say "thanks" ;)
At least afrihost has at least been honest about their "fair usage" policy whereas someone like mweb hasn't yet received the same amount of clout because like the company that mweb is they say nothing about their fair usage but instead just cut you off.

I understand what you are trying to accomplish but they explicitly stated that these "uncapped" accounts aren't meant for 24/7 downloaders.

Uncapped = No limit on bandwidth.

Advertising a product as "Uncapped" or "NO CAP" and then right down at the bottom of the page setting a limit of 200GB is FALSE ADVERTISING!

Be honest and advertise your product for what it is and not something it's not. This word play by companies is not acceptable and downright misleading in order to bait consumers.

Ya ponder dude, imagine afrihost has to pull this offering because of you!!!!!!!!!!!

Insane you went and reported them, absolutely shocking dude. You are so typically SA it is scary. While most of us rejoice the 200gb we can use you go report them. SIS

I bet you work for web africa.

200GB are you insane. Thanks to behavior like that we sit with shaping ffs

Whinge whinge... every isp should have a right to cut you off if you use more than 200gb of illegal files. seriously... some people. 50 gb should be more than enough for a normal person.

Then it is NOT an uncapped account. Don't call a fork a spade as it will confuse the gardener (consumer). You cannot call something X while in fact it is Y.

Do people not see the wrong in this? It is FALSE ADVERTISING finish and klaar.
