Afternoon all
I would like to change my 4Mb dsl Crystalweb to fiber from Afrihost. On their website they claim to cover the installion fee as well as the router and connection costs.
It sounds too good to be true. Am I missing something?

Most providers are offering this, so no not too good to be true, though there are terms and conditions.

Rather pay the cost upfront and use your own router - that way you not committed to an ISP and can easily change when service is not up to scratch - that's what I did - Cool Ideas is the best IMHO

In what way

To be honest, I didn't pay attention to the fine print, and so far I'm not sorry, but I think it might be that you are committed to stay with them for 2 years (could be less), or pay back an amount when you decide to leave them before the period is over.

In what way

If you change providers within a certain period you will have to pay back a portion of the installation cost and either return the router or pay for it.

Ts and Cs ..............Ts and Cs

No they are very clear on their month to month policy.
That aside you say you are happy with the switch?

This makes sense to me

I haven't had any issues so far, barring the little niggle I have mentioned in another thread just now.

So how does one get the timing right with such a change over. Ideally we don't want to sit without connection for more than a day

Go with cool ideas, you have no need to fart around with Afrihost.

Uncapped, unshaped, no throttling

Fibre does need to be treated like ADSL.

With Afrihost at least they cover the R1700 installation cost.
The same product is R70 cheaper and unshaped, no throttling as far as I can make out
Having said that I'm still unsure.
