Afrihost for fiber?

Well, I signed up for Vumatel Fibre through Afrihost in October (Randpark Ridge) as I have my DSL line with Afrihost

I just cancelled it, as there has been no (zero, nada) progress. We have the vumatel fiber connected inside the complex, but no communication from Afrihost/Vumatel since October. Logged tickets about 2 months ago, response was order is being processed.

Thus, I just signed up with Cool Ideas. Hopefully I can now get my fiber sorted. :D

With Afrihost at least they cover the R1700 installation cost.
The same product is R70 cheaper and unshaped, no throttling as far as I can make out
Having said that I'm still unsure.

And if you stick flowers in a pig's a$$ it it still a pig.

If you want endless frustration with a congested network and be treated like rubbish by a company that cares nothing for client no 156,786 then go for AfriHell.

If you prefer not having to worry and being able to use the bandwidth what you pay for, I suggest Cool Ideas.

You pay for quality ( service and product).

1. Sign up with Afrihost fibre promo (home uncapped), get installation and router "free" (18-month pay-off period)
2. Get fibre installed etc
3. Experience really bollocks speeds, issues with support, etc etc. Step 3 is almost guaranteed.
4. Cancel before 60 days are up, invoke 60-day double-your money back guarantee
5. Move to another ISP
6. Score

I'm super glad I have not signed up with them yet. Cool Ideas seem to get much love from people.

I recently signed up, got my line installation done yesterday (Openserve with 2 weeks so not too bad) BUT didn't receive my router yet :-( Hope I didn't make a mistake signing up with Afrihost Fibre.........

Picking up people getting much slower speeds through Afrihost, understandably uncapped . The speeds drop by 80% +

I have a 400Gb capped Afrihost account with OpenServe fibre all done through Afrihost.
1) The Afrihost "Helpdesk" is non-existent through all channels (web, phone, email, chat )
2) the wireless router they give you is **** if you have more than 1 person/device connecting to it.

I have been with Afrihost on this capped unshaped product for over a year. The only reason I have stuck with it is because it was such a huge pain to get it working initially and I did not want to be without internet for weeks again trying to switch.

Have eventually had enough and am going to switch to either Vox or Cool ideas. My main issue is streaming in the evenings between 7pm and 12pm which ISP would be recommended?

Happy to give you a test account?

Cool Ideas or Vox ?

CI does not have any capped packages + ppl have major drop in speeds I've noticed

I just don't know where to go

My budget is around R850

When have people had major drops in speed? :)

CI, you don’t need capped, the drop in speed that you would hear about (and I were one of those) is not CI but the fibre provider.

I have many services with Afrihost.

Primarily, I lease a server, and use them for RainLTE.

I applied for Fiber (TT-Connect), but was getting poor service from all corners. By that time no work had been done by TT-Connect, BUT Afrihost had sent me the router. Its a DLink AC1200, which i liked. I had to pay for that, and thats all.

With Cool Ideas now.. Sorry Afrihost, but Cool Ideas charge R1000 for the same 100/100 uncapped, unshaped as you do R1600.. And they were very attentive.

Im still with afrihost for the more technical aspects like my VPS there and domain management.

But would recommend you check out Cool Ideas.
