Hey Guys,

I have been doing a bunch of searching and without reading through every single thread I decided to just ask for some advice from the gamers out there.

I have tried several accounts, and found that the SAIX based accounts generally give me better ping to the SGS and iGame servers than any other. Averaging around 30ms. Now I have tried different accounts, and a few Prepaid IS accounts even give me up to 45ms stable ping. Local gaming servers FPS COD4 / Quake Live.

What is the Afrihost cheaper bandwidth like? I will primarily be using it for browsing once my Telkom account is capped. However can you game? Is the ping stable? Is there packet loss etc?

my afrihost ping was better than my web africa trial's ping.. When I was playing diablo2 on the war3.co.za server

^_^

Afrihost = 50-80 ms
Web Africa = 60-120 ms

I have been jamming COD4 for awhile now using Afrihost and it gives me the same ping as with my TelkomInternet saix account. Get it Trev you know you want to :-)

Peace

Shot Telkom <3

I actually just ordered the 5 gig account, I have heard so many good things I can't help but try :P

Tweak, the WA Trial account ping's are rubbish. I have been getting 60 - 80 ping on COD4 with that account yet my local Telkom account is usually around 30ms :P

So I didn't want to base my assumption on that trial account. Shot for the fast responses :P

As I said the primary reason for the account is browsing and the odd download here and there. When I cap my Do Account I still need a way to check facebook :P

my afri host pings better for saix servers than my saix does, by about 30ms

Shot bboy :P

Well I just have to fax them my ID / Drivers to complete the deal. 5 gigs for R145 can't freaking complain there.

Afrihost is basically IS accounts. So if you REEEAAALLY want 15ms better ping, you could try the IS servers. But seriously, who cares about the 15ms ping? Believe me, it ownt affect your game.

actually depending on the game, 15ms can make all the difference.

Im playing Quake Live off the afrihost account without issue. nice and stable and the pings are pretty much the same as any other account.

I disagree actually. I have been playing on a 20ms ping for so long that while in teh "grand" scheme of things I may not be able to physically feel the difference. It feels different, I can almost feel that extra delay in my actions and my reaction time.

Whehter it is placebo or not, that is not the point. The fact is the "feel" is different. Anyway it seems that most of the replies are positive :D I am also happy it is an IS backbone (I didn't know that lol) As I have my SAIX based accounts :P Now I have a proper IS account as well.

Shot for the advice SurvO QL this weekend GO TIME!

been playing PES2010 online on the EU servers using Afrihost and i have a 384k line and I can tell you it's not bad at all, in fact it's really good.

i have been playing mw2 on a 384 line with afrihost acc and i have had no probs whatsoever, good pings and no lag. -plus i topped up at 14.60 a gig.

afrihost - FTW

Cod4 been having a consistent ping on the is server 40-50 ping.
SGS servers 75-90 ping.
Dawn of war 2 pings are better on axxess account. 200+*
Heroes of newerth not bad is better on axxess accounts. 200-500 but depends on server local one is 80-110 ping
Borderlands almost the same as Dawn of war 2.

All on a 512 line.
