Got this e-mail now;

Hi Nicholas,

As you know we extended your Free-Time (which gives you 18 hours of free internet every day) to the month of December - We hope you are enjoying your free Festive GBs!

Please note though that Free-Time will come to an end on the 31st of December for any Capped data package of less than R299 per month.

The good news is that even though you will no longer get the full Free-Time of eighteen hours, you WILL STILL get 8 hours of free internet from Midnight to 8am every day on your Capped package.

And there is a way you CAN still enjoy Free-Time next month if you wish.

How can you keep Free-Time?

If you upgrade to a Capped data package of R299 or more per month you will keep getting 18 hours of daily Free-Time in January.

Simply log into your ClientZone, click on the Connectivity icon, choose your DSL package, click the ‘Edit Package’ button and choose a new package of R299 or more.

Why are we stopping Free-Time for data packages less than R299 per month?

We wanted to keep Free-Time going forever. For everyone.

However, as a direct result of Free-Time two things happened:

First, our overall usage and network costs increased dramatically but we did not get as many new clients as we had hoped to to help offset this extra cost.

Second, many clients (understandably!) downgraded their packages. And while I am truly delighted that everyone could save money and still enjoy more GBs, this meant we found ourselves in the challenging position of earning less revenue while having to pay more expenses.

And we were already operating on extremely tight margins beforehand!

So unfortunately it is simply not possible to keep offering 18 hours of Free-Time on all of our packages on top of the already low prices we charge per GB.

Now I know many people will say:

"Gian, you schmuck, of course this was going to happen! What were you thinking?"

Well, we were sincerely hoping for a different outcome!

We hoped there would be a big enough influx of new clients so that the new revenue would offset the extra cost. We are optimists by nature and even though we realised there was a good chance we wouldn't be able to keep Free-Time going forever for everyone, we were still hopeful!

We also knew that the worst case scenario, even if we we couldn't keep offering Free-Time to everyone, was that all of our Capped Clients would at least enjoy Free-Time for August, September, October and November! And many still enjoyed it for December!

What will happen in January?

From next month your 18 hours of Free-Time will stop (unless you have an ADSL data package of R299 or more, in which case it will continue)

If you have a Capped data package of LESS THAN R299 you will still get Free GBs for EIGHT hours between midnight and 8am every day.

Any Capped package of R299 and more will continue to automatically get the full 18 hours of free data each day.

So what’s the bottom line?

If you have a capped DSL package with us, and you want to keep enjoying Free-Time, then you need to go to https://clientzone.afrihost.com and upgrade to a month-to-month Capped DSL data package of at least R299 per month with us.

Alternately, if you choose not to upgrade, you will still automatically enjoy free data for the 8 hours from Midnight to 8AM each day on all our paid Capped packages.

As always thank you so much for trusting us with your business.

Have a spectacular Festive season!

Warm regards

Gian
CEO, Afrihost

So now, I had to upgrade my account to the 100GB package, and now I must upgrade again?
This ontop of the fact that this entire weekend and such my line keeps dying on Afrihost?
My Double Data? Maybe I must cancel it all and just get a R299 package to use Free time - I keep spending more and more with these idiots.

Interestingly their website terms and conditions still says: "Standard Paid Monthly Capped DSL Packages of R99+ per month and Bundles of 50GB+ per month, will receive Free‑Time until 31 January 2017, at which point the offer will be revised or extended."

Now they want to stop on 31st of December 2016.

Can you get your data usage for less at another provider? If so, move.

I think they were burnt with a lot of customers taking the piss out of their 18 hours of free internet. A few spoil it for the rest of us!

You do realise Free Time was/is just a promotion? It was never guaranteed.
If you want Free Time upgrade, or move to another provider if you are not happy.

Hmmmm. Thanks for the heads-up, Free-Time was only going to run till November and it was extended one month to December. I'll get our Team to check on that.

EDIT: Where did you see the promo as ended on the 31st of January on our site? On the Capped page it reflects as ending on the 31st of December.

It was on the free time landing page (http://www.afrihost.com/landing/free_time/), but I see it's fixed now.

I don't see any indication of what happens after January.

"stopping Free-Time for data packages less than R399 per month"
After Feb it will be R599 and so on

Can't help but think this might well be the case, unless Afrihost tells us otherwise...

I made a PDF of the webpage on the 1st of December and the free time read as follows:

- Free-Time: Monthly Capped DSL Packages of R99+ per month will receive Free, Unlimited Internet usage between Midnight and 6PM every day until 31 January 2017, at which point the offer will
be revised or extended. Click here for more information on Free-Time and a full list of Terms & Conditions.

I think it is unethical to change it now.

Maybe can get assistance here???

So I was on a 4mbps uncapped line until I had to downgrade, temporarily due to a decrease in salary.... Paid the R597 at the beginning of December and downgraded 2 days ago to 1mbps capped at 50+50, thinking it would kick in just before the next installment was due. It was activated almost immediately, and I was charged R1. No big deal I guess, except 1mbps was slower than a snail on a tortoise... So I asked the amazing Bradley (great service from him though) to change that to 2mbps. Today I'm charged just under R60... The problem is I've paid three times but I really just needed to save after all!!!!! Or else I would have waited until the end if the month and enjoyed my 4mbps uncapped!

And according to Fezile
"Sorry you feel that way,but unfortunately you will be billed for an upgrade."

I've been with you guys for two years. My downgrade was temporary...this is how you lose customers.
