I often find that international browsing stops working for 5-10 minutes while local still works - generally in the late evening. This happen to anyone else?

Hi there,
I've been using two separate AfriHost accounts for the past two months or so, and haven't ever noticed this yet. I'm in the Randburg area, Gauteng (not sure if it makes any difference...)

Cheers, RiOT.

Thanks RiOT for the info

I emailed support... turns out they're doing a line reset and changing router time settings can change when it happens.

But I thought line resets were not allowed...

weird. int/local fine from my account.

I was about to post the exact same thread!!

I've been experiencing the exact same over a few weeks now! I got so fed-up last night, around 10pm, that I just switched off my pc.

The worst part is that I work from home in the evenings for a USA company and this is affecting me badly on deliverables!! Browsing dies, pages keep timing out and I'm unable to FTP to the states.

I've called Afrihost and get the usual "no problem on our network, will call our upstream provider and find out" answer.

I'm seriously considering moving back to my previous provider until this is resolved. I loose more money by not making the deadlines than the monthly saving on bandwidth, therefore it's a no brainer decision for me!

EDIT: I don't experience the problem for 5-10 mins only. I'm unable to browse properly (pages keep timing out) mostly until the following morning. In true Murphy's Law fashion, I call their support guys yesterday morning at 8am and then the line starts working seamlessly with no reboot on my side?!?

When it happens go to your router and check if the "adsl line" light is flashing.

It's possible it's your line.

I have noticed that pages timeout ... when I first connect to the account I can browse a few pages, but then after like 30secs to a min, all the pages start to timeout ... and then when I re-connect the account again, I can browse again for another 30secs to a min .... very weird .... and its happened a few times already this morning ..... hopefully afrihost can look at what is happening on their network .... as this is bloody annoying!!!

I joined them yesterday. I must say, they have signup & documentation down to a tee. Everything fine so far except I cannot seem to access the Client Zone page. Tried several times now with no luck.

you are trying with your login details for your client zone and not your username and password for you dsl account ?

If that's the case then a blank screen is not ideal, a wrong password message is what should be shown.

obviously not. just tested it in FF/IE and wrong login detail goes blank. you emailed/phoned/pm-ed them about it ? however it does login when i use my client zone login detail. quite sure it did give an error message previous times i tried and failed the login.

Between 10 and 11 pm on a regular basis I experience downtime - it doesn't last more than 10 mins but it's frequent.

Same problem here. Dunno if every day but kinda often intl just drops out. I then switch back to my Do and everything's running fine here. So it can't be my line.

After 2 days of Afrihost everything is great. I have to say, what a great product for the price. No downtime at all so far. Http, torrents, email, no problems. My WoW latency has even improved by about 150ms. Happy days.
