I got my uncapped Afrihost account this month and I have to admit I am not happy. :mad:

I don't care for the 30GB cap or whatever it is, I want to use my line for non P2P use, but it is so shaped it is not possible to use it for anything.

rpmforge/primary 90% [============================== ] 5.6 kB/s | 3.4 MB 01:06 ETA

5.6kb/s !? :mad: Come on guys sheesh. If I dial up with a SAIX account I can use all my yum installs from the same mirror at 4mbit/s.

I am cancelling my Afrihost account today and refuse to pay for the time I used it. This service is useless. :(

yeah noticed the same thing here I stream cctv footage and they have cut me off already which is crazy how can they say that. all they said is you not allowed to download 100's of gb's and now it is 30gb

This from the client zone:

Total Bandwidth Used: 4.023GB
Month: April

so yeh, 4GB

Why don't you give Mweb Uncapped a try it seams that they the only ones that actually spent time planning the uncapped service

They are also a Tier 1 ISP so they don't resell bandwidth they have there own infrastructure

Just check if its any different

I am definitely going to go onto MWEB, I can't use such slow Internet :(

I agree with killkom, I'm using mweb uncapped and I'm very happy so far. You say you're downloading updates / software for linux? Last week thursday, during business hours I was pulling a full 420KB/s on my mweb uncapped for my ubuntu updates. That was however from the local mirror.

Just thought you might wanna know.

Here is what I get for (CentOS) updates locally, from SAIX using my Afrihost account

(3/3): samba-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1.i386.rpm (91%) 86% [==============================================- ] 178 kB/s | 14 MB 00:12 ETA

So I can't even get 4mbit local? fail.

Not only that, it was originally stated that the abusers will be penalized, now it seems everyone is. At usages < 5GB???

This product was falsely advertised and is the biggest fail product ever in the history of product fails in the world. No wait .. the universe.

Afrihost use IS...not SAIX. And IS seem to be having issues. I'm not getting anything higher than 40KB/s on our 4meg line at work.

I know they use IS, but the mirror in the above mentioned example I was using is on SAIX's network. I can't even get 4mbit between IS and SAIX is what I was trying to show.

I think Afrihost is alright if, like me, you are on a slower connection. I have a 384 line and am able to connect to p2p after hours and thats fine for me. During the day I dont need to download really and during the evening my speeds are slow enough to not "qualify" for the 30gb cap.

The business hour throttling is fine, it makes sense and it is essential. A friend of mine on mweb uncapped says its the same for him so Im not complaining.

I guess I cant say too much for the 4mb connections and the capping, I suppose I would also feel taken for an ass if I had to be capped that way, but I guess the slower connections are the ones actually scoring from this hehe

Interesting, so what results do you get? Here's mine [done at 6pm]
Not quite sure what it means though....

Post the ENTIRE output from the screen, not just the shaping values. What is your line speed and adsl package?
