I noticed connection to the US is bad today, even worse than the usual bad
Weren't we promised kinda worldclass internet connections with that shiny new SEACOM thingie?
And now this: Ping of more than half a second! Reminds me on my trial with Neotel ... *sigh

I am having a similar issue. After the SAT3 line break a couple of days ago (which is restored btw) my pings went considerably higher in all my international traffic. I logged a call with Hellkom which is resolved now ,I also logged a call with Afrihost but all they told me was the SAT3 line is restored and they are having no problems at their office. I then tried a new modem but to no avail , my pings are still higher than usual. I play Heroes of Newerth and my pings went up by 150 for each uk server / local servers went up with atleast 30 ms. I have a 4mb line btw. This is really starting to piss me off as I can not pinpoint too where the problem persist. I am starting to think that they are throttling certain traffic as my international downloads are still the usual speeds. If this is not sorted in a months time , then I will take my business elsewhere. Even if I have to pay more....

I didn't even bother to do a speed test, since as a gamer the download is not that important. I can work around speed issues with setting my grafix lower and otherwise reducing client side lag. But with this kind of latency it won't help much.
Do you think IS is on SAT3 now? I thought they were working with SEACOM exclusively.
And why should we even bother to know about these things?

This is me: ADSL 4096 line from Telkom (of course), bandwith from IS, resold by Afrihost.
And while Afrihost is the cheapest reseller around we're still paying much too much for internet service in this country. For that amount of money we should receive the world's bestest service, not the slowest, most unreliable.

Look at countries like Sweden or Norway: Small user base, little villages in very remote areas, some even north of the polar circle - and still everybody is connected there. With speeds and pings we can only dream of. How come?

AFAIK, Afrihost is with IS and IS is still on SAT3. This is a countrywide problem and gamers are the only ones experience the problem, since we are sensitive to latencies.

Playing WoW with either Axxess Semi-shaped or Afrihost, I'm getting horrible lag and I think its because of the packet loss we're getting. If you do a "ping www.google.com -t", you'll see many packets getting dropped.

It seems Telkom is still working on the problem:

my axxess unshaped working fine in WoW getting 260 ms to 350 ms as normal even my telkom account is perfect

Still getting crappy pings. Can't get any info on the SAT3 line maintenance anywhere online...

Yup, still a problem with the SAT 3 cable. Double international latencies between everyone here at the office and my circle of gamer friends.

IS uncapped bouncing like a 4 year old that's just downed a whole Red Bull!

Problem is that these providers need to purchase a part of the Seacom cable, and since they already have bandwidth on the SAT-3 are unwilling to spend the extra cash. Especially since Seacom has zero redundancy, at least the SAT-3 cable can use the SAFE cable if all else fails.

my torrents on afrihost are 3-4kb/s...
i have just switched from telkom where they were 0.0 kb/s

these cables are still not fixed ?
