Oh no what have I done ! I think I may have made a big mistake ! I have changed my ISP from Telkom to Afrihost as I have moved over to fibre and I am already regretting it . Afrihost in their wisdom have failed to send out my router so I am sat with my fibre all installed and no way of using it ,according to their call centre it will be sent out sometime next week as they don't send the pre ordered routers out until the customer asks for it ??? I fear the worst ! I thought by leaving Telkom my days of very poor service and call centre "put offs" were over but it seems like they are just beginning with my new ISP

You're first mistake, taking what they give you.

You are the customer, you need to become annoying, don't throw a tantrum but make it known that you're pissed off and this was not explained when you signed up, get names and positions, tell them that if they don't make a plan to sort you out you're going to cancel and write a really shitty email to the CEO and let him know that the "insert employees names here" is letting down the company because they couldn't deliver your router and you had to go somewhere else.

Why can't you use your old Telkom modern while you wait for the new router?

OP just to be clear they installed your CPE router installed (box that has the fibre cable coming from the wall) and you don't have wifi or is it just a cable dangling on its own.

they have installed everything I just don't have a router

Just use your Telkom router, check the ip address of the fibre modem using command prompt/terminal, disable dhcp on the telkom router and give it a static address (I usually make it one digit higher than the main router). glhf

What fibre cable provider are you using? Anything except Openserve setting is easy. Dynamic IPv4. As far as I know you also need to navigate to http://activate.afrihost.com to activate.

Plug in an ethernet cable directly into the CPE leave LAN settings on pc or laptop on Auto. Navigate to that activate link. Activate the line and you are done if you want to start using it for the weekend.
