Afrihost keeps me up at night

Okay cool. Should be easy then.

Ethernet(LAN) cable between your pc and the installed ONT (fibre box) lan 1 port. Make sure your LAN settings on your pc is set to IP address Auto. Then once you have the cable connected see if you can access any website. If not try and navigate to http://activate.afrihost.com and follow the activation process. You need to access this site from the new fibre connection.

Okay. Did it show the lan cable connected?

In windows Right click on start. Then Run then type cmd and run that. then type ipconfig and press enter. What does it show there?

what it do you need to know as it shows lots of stuff

That is an internal ip. So if you have not manually set the ip in your pc lan then installation is not done or the line is not activated yet.

Could be that the ip is manually set to that not sure though. I do believe once the line is installed it should work because you do the activation on Afrihost side.

Please check the IP settings.

Right Click on the network icon > Click Network and Internet Settings > Network And Sharing Centre > Click on Ethernet > Properties > Double click on Internet protocal version 4 TCP/IPv4 > Obtain IP automatically

If those settings are correct then make sure you are plugged into the ONT LAN 1 port on the ONT not sure if it makes a difference on Frogfoot.

is the ont box the little black box they installed ? it only has one port and it says Ethernet on it

ok tried that it wont connect it just puts that little caution sign in the connectivity icon in the bottom right corner

Okay but you did check that your ip is set to automatic right? If you did and you still get a 10. ip then sorry I'm out of advice.

Won't he still need pppoe details and setup such connection on the PC connected to the ONT?

Well Afrihost only uses pppoe on Openserve. The rest is DHCP so setting the router/device to auto configure ip should give you an Afrihost ip.

yes it is set to automatic

Sorry don't have any advice. Better to pressure Afrihost. Hopefully Frogfoot is not messed up the vlan configuration on your line.

Since nothing we said is able to help you, no offense but you are paying them money and that includes technical support. Call them in the morning its what they're paid to do.

Evening all sorry for the delayed reply , Thank you all so much for trying to help , but it would seem I will have to wait until my router arrives , spoke to Afrihost again today and it still hasn't been sent out , they now tellme it will be 7-10 days . I wish I had stuck with Telkom and ADSL !
