Once again for the 3rd time in 5 weeks I cannot send e-mail. Each time it takes hours before it is available again.

I wish this problem can be found.

Hi

Based off your last thread the issue seemed to sit with the line/ exchange in your area?
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/826271-Afrihost-network-and-support-pathetic

It may be better to keep that thread updated with ongoing issues or post in our official feedback threads. Don't think it's necessary to create a new thread.
Either way, have you done any troubleshooting with our team?

There are no general issues with our mail servers.

We have been having similar problems with the afrihost smtp server not being available.
Yesterday afternoon this problem started again.
E-mail is working with an alternative mail server, so this can not be a connection issue.
You can use smtp.mtnbusiness.co.za
And yes, i have tried support. I doubt the guy on the other side even knew what a smtp server is.

Sorry to hear that.
What kind of errors did you see?

This is the current error i get. However, it is the first time that i see this error.
I don't have record of the errors from yesterday, but i do remember that the words policy violations was not in them.

Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: 550 policy violations. AH008

The domain is hosted by mweb

This could be a number of issues. Malformed headers, an attachment that's too big or you've reached an SMTP limitation of sorts.
It could also be an anti-virus app that's causing timeouts to the server.

Have you tried sending from another device?

I have tried several devices now and get the same error on all of them.
Again, this is not the same error i got yesterday.
Malformed headers - why would smtp.mtnbusiness.co.za then accept the e-mail.
no attachment
anti - virus : why would smtp.mtnbusiness.co.za then accept the e-mail.

My own logic tells me that if server 1 accepts the e-mail and server 2 does not accept it, then server 2 has a problem,
and not the client.

Are you sending mail using an Afrihost DSL/ Mobile account?

smtp.afrihost.co.za -- returns error, mail does not get send, see error above

smtp.mtnbusiness.co.za -- no error, mail delivered
smtp.mweb.co.za -- no error, mail delivered

Very odd. I wonder if there's some kind of restriction from your mail account/ IP address. I'd recommend FW'ing our Support team a set of headers and the full bounceback error so we can further diagnose this.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago , changed over the afrihost second mail sever smpt2.afrihost.com miraculously fixed it.

This problem has been ongoing for over 18 months in my case. I never know when my mail would work. Funny that Afrihost always come formaward with different port no's etc and that is not the problem. No changes proposed by Afrihost has ever solved the problem and it just resolves itself after 2-6 hours. This means I am paying for 24/7 service and only getting say 23/7 over a period of time.

Like in this case Afrihost only responded after 24 hours with some setting changes as below.
Thank you for your valued e-mail.

Kindly try using smtp2.afrihost.com also try using 25 or 587 outgoing mail server ports.

Have a great day and please let me know if I can help with anything else!

By the time these changes were proposed the Afrihost mail server was already up and running again.

There are no general issues with our mail servers.

The mail server problem has nothing to do with the many disconnects I had from 01 to 04 July. That related to slow internet and was resolved and was a Telkom problem. It server no purpose to try and relate this ongoing problem to a specific problem of the past.
When I got this response after 24 hours from support the problem resolved itself without me doing any changes. Further the changes proposed by Afrihost after 24 hours has never in the 18 months that I have this problem improved matters. I just have to sit and wait for hours.

There were no problems for about 2 weeks thus this is a problem I had from the morning I started the new thread. Unfortunately it does take 24 hours for support to contact me and hoped you can get some action. By the time support reply like in this case the problem on the network would by something of the past. I just means I have to sit and wait for the mail server to be available again.

Is there a ticket ref# I can look at?

I had the exact same thing here is what their tech support told me.

Hi there XYZ.

Thank you for the update.

I have not had any reports of there being an issue with the server but I will mention it to management.

Have a great day further, and do let me know if you need anything else.

Kind Regards

Please visit your Afrihost Client Zone, https://clientzone.afrihost.com to activate your account, update your details, make changes to your account and packages and much much more.

Glad to see smtp2 worked for you as well and this whole thing wasn't my imagination, clearly something is not right with their main mail server.
