I wonder if anybody can give me info on what is going on at Afrihost. 18 hours after I submitted an on line support request I just get another question asked if I still cannot reach the mailserver.
Ref no:#YMN-893-75119

Come on Afrihost surely I am paying for connectivity and not a working network now and again.

Refer to download speed as per the graph. Over time the speed is about 1/10th of normal speed.

Hi

Sorry to hear about the issues here.
If I take a look at the ticket it doesn't seem like there's a description/ attachment on the mail to what you've posted here, hence our teams reply asking which error was received :)

I can't see any issues from our end, and I'm successfully able to telnet into the box with good responses.

I did clearly indicate in my support request that I would e-mail the error which I did. Seems like is also too much effort to read the [email protected] e-mails sent. The same error pic as in this post was e-mailed.

I am sure you know that no attachments can be added when logging a support request as it is text only.

Did you perhaps send the error in via a separate mail? If so, there's no way for us to link this into the existing ticket. We can't keep track of individual requests to have them merged without ref#'s - I'm sure you can appreciate that we get thousands of mails a day.

Either way, let's look at working out the problem at hand here.
Are you able to telnet into our SMTP server?

I am available now. I don't know how to telnet as it is something support have never tried while having problems.
My modem is still changing from green to red every few seconds. This is the internet connection light. It is more on red than on green.
My internet is so slow it takes about 5 min just to login into clientzone.

This sounds like more of a connection issue as opposed to an SMTP one though. If your connection is dropping then you won't be able to use the net, which includes SMTP.

Are we your ISP for DSL?

The smtp issue resolved itself after a few hours as it had been the case for the last 2 years. At no time could anybody get it going from the support side. We just had to wait each time.
Currently it is just a slow and disconnecting connecting.

Yes you are my ISP otherwise I won't be logging a support query.

There definitely haven't been on-going issues for 2 years though, so I'm a little stumped as to what's happening here.
Can you PM me your DSL username/ email address so I can run through the account to see what the possible cause is?

I would have thought it stands to reason that if you sent me a ref no and I use the same addy to send the pictures and I mentioned in my support request that I will send an email it would be linked even if you receive many e-mails.

I would think the download speed should be more constant like the upload speed.
