Good afternoon all

I have a question about Afrihost mobile activation/provision.

A friend on mine got her Modem on Wednesday and a SMS to say that she can now enjoy the Afrihost 3G and all the nice goodies one would expect.

We are now in Stillbaai and she wanted to make use of her new Afrihost 3G stick, but it does not want to work. After the software that comes with the sick/modem were installed it connects briefly but the connection then gets dropped a second after that.

I think it might be that this is not activated on the Afrihost network, but I'm not sure what the procedures with Afrihost is.

I also tried to see if she has access to the clientzone, but that also doesn't work.

So, what do Afrihost send their mobile clients after the sign up? Emails and SMSes with logins and passwords to clientzone?

She said she did not get anything from Afrihost via e-mail, which tells me that she isn't provisioned.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

What OS?
What modem is it?
What did you enter for APN, user name and password?
Did you manually enter a dial-up number?

Thanks for the reply.

I installed it the Mobile partner software that came with the Huawei E3131 stick on my Win 8.1 x64 laptop to test. I have a windows 7 laptop here as well I can try on.

I did not set APN settings, would have thought the software did that.

Nope did not enter manual dial-up no either.

I don't know about Win 8, but on Win 7 you can plug the modem in, let it install the drivers then set up a dial-up connection manually.

Number to dial = *99#
APN = afrihost
Username = leave this blank
Password = leave this blank also

Edit: what colour LED do you see on the modem when plugged in?

Thank you. Just did the test on windows 7 and I tried with small letters. that worked. It appears that the help FAQ is incorrect. thank you for the help. Much appreciated.

OK good to hear, maybe Afriman will sort out the FAQ's for the next guy.....

What I did notice once you receive a brand new(sim card) from Afrihost it takes time for their system to provision your sim card and pick it up on their system.

Received a brand new sim card, took about 15 - 20 minutes to provision on their network which is weird, still having the same issue now whereby it takes about 5minutes to actually connect to the network. (Not sure if the sim card is faulty)

Heya Hunted

Sorry about the late reply, I know you posted this thread a few days ago.
Did you managed to get connected?
