Afrihost Mobile Feedback Thread

Afrihost/MTN mobile has been utterly useless in the East Rand for the last 2 months! No matter how much I have pleaded and complained nothing has changed. Filled in a network coverage (whatever) form - TWICE. Waste of time.

I cannot wait to move into my new house and get ADSL. AH/MTN will never see me again after that...

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get any assistance with your coverage form. If you have the reference, I can escalate this to our MTN account manager :(

I am exactly in the same situation. East rand, filled forms heard nada, Afrihost asked for references which were given and still heard nothing again. Now I just survive from day to day as I gave up.

This is the reply I received from AH after the submitting the forms:

Please note we just got feedback from MTN and they said they have data issues in the whole of East Rand and our engineers are working on it.

That was on the 30th of September. No word since then to say that they have fixed the problems. I was hoping that the IPC issues would have addressed the problems. It is a month later and I still have issues. I am constantly being flipped from HSPA+ (3-4 bars) to Edge. EDGE!! Early in the morning throughput is OK. Later in the (when more people use the network?) throughput drops to unusable levels and perceived latency is measured in tens of seconds!!

We are working hard with MTN to locate the exact cause of this recurring issue on their system and to permanently resolve this issue and prevent it from happening again.

If this is a MTN system problem, then why does it not happen with MTN or Axxess data ?

Or are you not talking about the capping issue here ?

It is 16:00 on a Sunday. I have FULL HSPA+ signal, that is 4 bars! And I can't stream 480p from YouTube!!

!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS is what you call broadband? Really?

There have been major connectivity issues in the East Rand on the MTN Cellular network, MTN is working hard to ensure that the quality of the signal improves as soon as possible, but until the issue is corrected I cannot give you an exact time when it will be completed.

This is specifically in reference to the Capping issue, the error does also occur with Axxess users, but their Mobile Data user base is significantly smaller, so it the occurrence is lower.

Look back through this thread - the issues been around for months and months and still frustrating users.
How long has Afrihost+MTN been tirelessly working to resolve this?

Is there a fix in site (or even an understanding of the problem) or is this an Eskom-deal-with-it type of problem which we'll get to in a few years, maybe?

The East Rand has been included in MTN's Upgrade Cycle scheduled for November / December, until then they are trying to implement a number of tweaks and changes to keep performance up until then.

I'm talking about the capping issue - the capping at random times thats been hitting users for many many months now.

Anybody have any suggestions as to where I can get a cheap LTE device?

We have made some improvements on this front already :)
If you're still seeing the Capped page drop me a PM and I can check things out for you.

Is anyone here gaming with LTE? If so, what are the latencies and is it stable?

Latency is quite hard to guarantee on Mobile, what's your signal quality like?

It is at my GF's house where I have had no problems at all till Sunday. Then, zip.

Could be an area specific issue, that latency you posted earlier definitely isn't normal.
I'd say if nothing has improved by tonight drop me a PM and I can have a query logged for you.

I game with 3g using hspa locker and I get between 60 and 70 ms and lte should be better but it still depends on the tower you connect with.
If the tower isn't congested you should be golden.
