Interesting : (Tested at office) :

SIM in Huawei E1820 (CellC device) :

SIM in Huawei E220 (Telkom Mobile device) :

SIM in Huawei E5331 (Afrihost MIFI device) :

SIM in HP HS2350 (laptop built-in 3G) :

And, just for kicks (both tested at the same location - same orientation, and in the same position on my desk) :

8ta SIM in Huawei E5331 :

CellC SIM in Huawei E5331 :

So it seems there's nothing wrong with the device, it's with the MTN cellular network :D

According to MTN I should have full LTE at home... I will wait and see when the device rocks up at my doorstep.
Hopefully it's better than my vodascum reception... 1 bar, Edge at best.

Neither the device or the SIM supports LTE.

Got mine delivered in PE about an hour ago.

Says connected to MTN, macbook and iPad connected via wifi - but won't load any internet data.

All sites just timeout.

Strong 3G signal and easy setup but other than that, it's not going anywhere.

#sigh

Client Zone 2 says it's active with an IP registered.

We are experiencing DNS errors which may affect ADSL clients' web browsing, YouTube access, email, etc. Our team are urgently attending!

Hi guys

We're experiencing some DNS issues at the moment, our team are working on getting this resolved as soon as possible.

thanks. was just about to send a mail, and just before I hit the send button, I decided to come look here if anyone else is having issues.

ok this is my experience.
at home:
mtn map shows full 3G coverage. the device shows red bars on its display. i can connect, but the web interface shows poor connection, 2G.
same device, with 8ta sim: same thing.
same 8ta sim in another device at home: 3G, 3 Bars on this other devices app.

at work, mate here next to me, has full 3G mtn signal.
same red bars at above with e5331 device.. but can connect and speedtest shows 50kBps download speed. sigh..
popped in the 8ta sim to the e5331, and spedtest shows over 400kBps download speed..

i have never seen the signal bars in any other color than red. werent they supposed to go green? atleast with the 8ta sim in?

what am I doing wrong here guys?
or is the mtn network that messed up for my specific locations (midrand and fourways should have TOP shelf signal btw..) or is the device somewhat.. faulty??

Over the little while that I've had it my S3(also MTN) has consistently delivered slightly better speeds than the E5331. The S3 also seems to find a 3G signal in places where the E5331 can only find 2G.
