Just a quick one, it's just been announced that our very own AfriMan is the winner for the company rep of the year. Well done buddy, VERY well deserved buddy.

It's also an absolute honour to work for a company that's been confirmed as ISP of the year - 3rd year in a row running :D

Congratulations! AfriMan you deserve it!

Now he will probably get a salary increase(more bandwidth), bonus (mobile bandwidth), vacation time off(mifi)

Anyone else notice that MMS's don't seem to work over the APN?

I receive a notification of them very late(like 2 days) and then i get a download button on my S4 in the message to actually get the content, but fails on the Afrihost APN until I switch to normal APN then it downloads in 1 second.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multimedia_Messaging_Service

Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is a standard way to send messages that include multimedia content to and from mobile phones. It extends the core SMS (Short Message Service) capability that allowed exchange of text messages only up to 160 characters in length.

Thanks for the reminder :) Are you having problems getting sms's while using the APN?

Was there any problems in the Pretoria/Montana area this morning?

Wife is in Montana hospital, she was unable to post on facebook or read emails, even though the mifi shows 100% status...

There was an issue this morning but it has been fixed. Is she still battling to connect?

Highly improbable that this would ever happen. SMS sending and receiving has nothing to do with the APN the last time I checked.

MMS failure tends to happen when an MMS APN is not available to the phone. It has been too long since I've looked at the MMS APN settings on MTN so I can only comment on the specific settings as on my Vodacom handset: I have a specific APN setting for MMS in my phone settings. If one wipe out all the other APN settings one would not be able to send/receive MMS messages.

Just to make it clear. You can't send MMS via the Afrihost APN.

MMS use a specific MMS APN, not data.

I have tried to send MMS messages whilst connected via wifi to any wifi AP (adsl - telkom, afrihost, mweb etc), and it does not work.

Nailed by the above issue again. Only solution is to restore network settings, then reapply the Afrihost APN. Kinda annoying when on the run and you find you are effectively off-network.

Okay this almost certainly has to do with hopping between LTE and 3G cellular towers. At some point everything is messed up and your phone is left in a gridlock. What works every time for me is to either toggle the LTE switch (probably phone model specific) or to toggle the cellular data switch.

I remember this being a huge issue for Vodacom users when early adopters reported back on LTE. The general solution was to turn off LTE completely but one need only toggle the switches to get a data connection again. I'm not sure when this will be fixed - if it's a phone hardware/software thing, or a cellular tower setting. (?)

I have the same problem. Toggling LTE off and back on sorts it.
It's irritating to have to keep checking this.

As far as I know, MMS uses airtime, not data. Probably something to do with network inter-charges, etc. Anyway, can't send MMS over our data, but WhatsApp and the like work just fine :)
