What I did discover using their competitor server, noticed much slower speeds. Normally it does effect the speed depending on the load and how many users are currently running test. Also make use of MyBroadband Speedtest(noticed their server doesn't have any load issues, works better than speetest)

It shouldn't be that much slower :) Mostly depends on how routing/ peering works.

Surely your area does have coverage for LTE :P Possibly faster than mine :P

Did run another speedtest but the speeds were not acceptable at all, 3 G speeds.

Every time you run a speedtest - data gets depleted much faster.

The test was conducted using LTE Router B593s-601(Telkom Mobile)

On my DSL - I have a slightly, almost stable DSL line at home. LTE is around 15-20Mbps on average at home. Work is awesome, I've got like 40Mbps once or twice :)

I always try an change te server if I want to double check or confirm the speed. Thinking that the server might have an effect on speed as well sometimes.

Server will have a huge effect. Testing a few reliable servers is always a good idea :)

Hi All,

I bought a MiFi for my Mom in Dec 2013. It has never worked properly. I filled in forms coverage maps etc etc. I was then told that my query was sent to MTN on the 28 Feb. Nothing happened, MTN never contacted me, when I called them they knew nothing about this complaint. According to the maps etc. there is MTN coverage in my Mom's area (Equestria, Pretoria).

I spent many more hours on the line with a technician and it still would not work.

The technician told me that there was nothing more Afrihost could do, when I complained I was told that another modem would be sent to me to try out. I was then charged for this modem.

I have tried the new modem and it is no different from my previous experience.

I tried to measure the speed but it cannot load the speedtest page, as it times out. I have been to Afrihost's office to try and return the devices but I was kept waiting and eventually had to go to work.

This has been a horrible experience that has cost me a lot of time and money.

I don't want to try and fix this anymore I just want my money back so I can get a service from some where else, no-one is replying to my mails.

I cannot even open webpages at the moment with my Afrihost sim. Can't even do a speedtest. Using my Telkom mobile sim to post this message.

I've notice a discrepancy the last couple of days. I use mdma to connect on my pc and it tracks the data used and over the last two or so days data used in mdma and the data usef reported on the afrhost site doesn't match up. I'm not trying to blame anyone I'm just trying to figure out whats going on, is mdma giving me the wrong data count ?

Clientzone has been reporting that I've been using about a 100 megs more than mdma has

Sorry that you had this terrible experience, and it should not have gone this way at all. Definitely should have not been charged for two devices without your consent, and we should have at least taken back the additional device and refunded you, from the information you are posting here.

Is there any chance that you can come through again? I will arrange with the service manager that you are attended to immediately and that everything is done correctly.

Drop me a PM please :(

We had an authentication problem on Mobile around about this time - should have been resolved within about an hour as I understand.

Are you still battling with speeds?

It's very difficult to match what your local OS records and what the network records. Remember there are also authentication and overheads between the MiFi and the network that your PC won't know about. Also, if any other device is logged on at any time, you're also not gonna see that.

Overall their mobile offering isn't that bad, although the speeds can be terrible at my house (barely hitting 1.2 mb's)

When I am at my GF's house I average about 10-12 mbps. If only we could all get this everywhere.

I also filled in the MTN network coverage thing and still nothing has come of it

Your girlfriend sounds like a keeper, in that case ;)

When did you submit the coverage form? Did you get a reference, etc?

Yeah I dont use a mifi I use a dongle. the uploading figure on mdma is the same as the one on clientzone its just the download figure is about a 100 mg higher.
It use to line up pretty closley before but I've playind wow lately and was wondering if that anything to do with it. Is there another way to track how much data you use on your pc?

There are probably a few tools and utilities you can use, but I'm not sure if they will all line up directly. We do audit our data logs as well, so I do believe they're pretty reliable, but we receive them via the network, so the time stamps may differ if we receive them late or after a cutover like month end.

Hahaha I don't want to love in Boksburg :P

I submitted it about 5/6 weeks ago. I should have a ref in an email somewhere.
I submitted another one yesterday for my MTN cellphone contract as well.

There is a church like two properties away from my house and even though I should get
full 3G and LTE as per their coverage map, I am lucky if I get 1-3 seconds burst of 3G

Forgive my ignorance - where does the church come in? Do they have a cellphone tower somewhere there?

I've had a few clients resubmit their coverage requests and then get feedback, so it's worth a try. Are you submitting directly to MTN or via our support centre?
