Nah sink or swim man.... so question do you do any shaping on the mobile network. I am having odd issues where VPN traffic to work is sporadically very slow. I am using SSH so very little data.

I am in an area only getting 3G but the speedtest results look ok around 6-9 down and 5-6 up. I have disabled LTE on the router it seems a little better but still seems sporadically slow.

Any ideas or is this just contention ratios coming into play ?

Sporadically slow? So in other words, you sometimes do not have any problems? I don't think it's got to do with contention ratios. Have you ever paid attention to what you might be doing differently when your VPN is running fine?

The router will be in the exact same spot and be fine the for 30min then it will slow to a crawl. Not sure if it is some kind of timeout perhaps.

I tried setting the disconnect timeout on the router to max.

I wonder if the router doesn't go into some lower priority as soon as your data usage drops? Sounds weird I know, but maybe when it slows down again, try browse on Facebook for a bit (or any website for that matter) to kick up the prioritization. :) (just a crazy idea)

I also thought it might be going in to some disconnected state... it is a huawei 5577
 
Interesting, I tried signing up for 2 Mobile One accounts MTN sims both are prepaid, the first account after about 2 weeks with much help from the support guys "Thank you" is now working, the 2nd sim within 15 mins of sign up said it could not be provisioned as it's a prepaid sim ?

Is this still working for people ?

How recently was the sim card purchased? It can take up to 72 hours for the RICA documentation to be processed and verified.
 
2 months ago, both sim cards were ported from CellC to MTN.

Interesting.... Can you please send me a PM with the number assigned to the sim card, we may need to manually provision it on our side.
