Afrihost - Moving Fibre

So I got fibre installed about a month ago with Afrihost(yes I know terrible idea) I've got a 20/5 Octotel line and have a Home Uncapped package from Afrihost, so I didn't know they throttle and shape like there is no tomorrow unless you pay more meanwhile other ISP's dont do either on the SAME network aka Octotel.

So how do I move my fibre line from Afrihost to say Cool Ideas/WA/Anything that doesnt suck and what costs are involved?

Any help or someone who has been through this all ready can let me know would be great.
 
Stay away from any fibre provider who also does ADSL. That is the best piece of advice I can give. Also, speak to @PBCool about moving to Cool Ideas. He is awesome.

I'm in exactly the same boat. You have to wait 6 months to move without penalty :/

Any idea how much the penalty is? Tbh ill pay just to get away from Afrihost at this point my 20mb line is running at 1mb in the evenings o_O

Eek! Yea man I feel you. My 10MB line ran at 28kb/s last night. A truly wtf moment.
AFAIK it's the installation fee at least, which is like 3K or something. Might be other penalties.

Got an answer for you:
"Should you cancel your Afrihost Fibre in less than 6 months from installation, or your account falls into arrears, you will be charged a cancellation fee of R999."
 
To answer your question about how do I move, your best bet is to call Cool Ideas and ask them to confirm the process (provided that you can move without any penalties).

Ye PBCool has responded to me all ready :) all ready faster than afrihost :ROFL: , im waiting on afrihost now to respond to me about what the penalty will be if its 999 ill def pay that to get far away from there insane FUP, couldnt even stream netflix last night i was throttled under 1mb/s.

I am sorry that you had a horrible time with us. Your connection really shouldn't be so slow. :( .

You will only get a R999.00 penalty if you cancel your fibre within 6 months of signing up. You can also return your router in your ClientZone and we'll offset your cancellation fee.

Did you cancel on the after or on the 23rd of this month?

In the meantime I am more than willing to work with you to try and sort this out. :)

If you are having issues with your connection I am more than willing to help you sort this out. Feel free to send me a PM or you can post some tests here and we can get down to the bottom of this for you.

Your support team already phoned me and said I am being shaped. This is apparently normal on your network.
 
Afrihost shaping has always been there and is kak move to cool ideas there is reason they isp of the year and Afrihost will never win that award again.
 
what generally confuses me is how Cool Ideas and Afrihost both pay Octotel for my line but one throttles and the other one doesn't :ROFL:

To be fair, I've been with Afrihost something like 6 or 7 years. They have always shaped, but 28kb/s on a 10mb line is utterly ridiculous.

Or if you look at Prodegy getting 1mb on a 20mb account. This isn't shaping, this is denial or service.

That is easy, the one company is stuck in the past, thinking only about its own bottom line, and can't or won't adapt with the times, where the other has seen the future, and thinks about its customers.

There is absolutely no reason for Afrihost to shape you, as they do not pay Octotel IPC charges i believe. They do it purely to be greedy.

That is really as that is not the case. We haven't any load on our network for a long time so if you having an issue we need to sort this out.

I would really like it if you sent me a PM so I can see who told you this and correct this.

This really isn't the case and there is a lot more to what goes on with regards our network. As mentioned before, if you having an issue we want to sort this out and I am more than welcome to help you.

We're constantly updating and improving our network to make sure our clients are having the best experience possible. We have currently updated our international traffic link to improve the experience.
