Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Makes sense. MTN is limiting the number of fixed LTE customers per tower. Likely to keep speeds up because tower bandwidth is shared with MTN and MTN Fixed LTE users. Once a certain number of fixed LTE users are reached per tower there is no new signups allowed.
Well they better not stop that tower from accepting new connections. I'll only be able to get there next month.

They really are enforcing the tower lock as well as a modem/router device lock. I think you are allowed one location change per year.

Too bad though. It was one of major cellc fixed lte perks that you could travel between the designated towers. Holiday internet & streaming was a no brainer.

I was really hoping for a miracle when I got home just now, but no such luck. “The profile is invalid”.
Just a thought. I switched off some auto config settings (tr-069) which clearly was still set up for telkom. I suspect they ran out of vanilla routers and started selling the b525's procured for telkom fixed lte (I'm with axxess not afrihost btw).

That being said, I also read somewhere that axxess recommends using their b525 as they load specific firmware tailored to best utilise mtn's fixed lte spectrum with carrier aggregation (something normal lte phone users aren't necessarily doing).

Thanks. I’ll have a look. I’m using a B618 from Afrihost which I got on a Rain deal.

Dude! I am pretty sure mtn banned/blocked your B618. I am not sure how or why they blocked my A70 phone (supporting cat12!), but they shut me down fast. It may be that they even look if you use the correct carrier aggregation combo and ban you if you dont. Request to "unlock your sim from B618" and just use the mtn configured B525 they sent you. (Or you can look for info on how to reconfig your B618 - someone of the forum posted a Huawei tool for that some time ago). You'd have to request the unlock as well and then hope you got it right and not get banned again. If you are lucky enough to speak to the right people, you might get axxess/afrihost to send you the correct firmware / config files. Also double check you submodel compatibility b618-22d vs -55d). Im not sure which one you should have though.

Mtn should just make they banning criteria a lot more transparent!

Doubt the B618 will get banned, it an approved router. Phones are not approved, that's why yours got blocked.

Did this and still not able to connect

Thanks, I'm sure that would not be an issue since the B618 is on the approved list.

Day 2....red light persists on my B618...AH control panel still says order unfulfilled and at "Courier Depot" ..WTH?!

Clearly things are not right with the provisioning process of MTN sims.
Bad experience to date...support even more useless save for the canned wait 4 to 48 hours response.

Yet ....we are all charged from a week before we even receive the sim ( during ordering)!

Sort out your processes @AfriMan

Day 8...no light(invalid profile), and no further comms from Axxess. I'll be asking them to come fetch their SIM and give me a refund later today, I've had enough.

Will sign up through Afrihost, maybe their customer service will be better. @The Axxess Lady

Still on a Red light. My device inbox has around 200 messages saying:
"provisioning failed. please contact customer care or retry later"
Maybe it cannot find a tower? Might get an extension and get on the roof with it

Cool pic :D

What is the message on the landing page?
All I got was messages saying "Welcome to MTN" or something like that, no connection on the first day and then invalid profile. It's showing full bars MTN 4G.

That looks exactly like what mine did in the beginning.
Do you see MTN 4G if you choose manual network selection?

So if your sim is still waiting for activation it does connect the the 3G network but when forced to 4G says no service.

Sigh.... this is the response one receives 2 days later..

A case was logged with MTN about this and we are awaiting feedback. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. ^Anita

What is the problem? Why does your control panel still say order with courier???!
You need to do some investigation first as well before fobbing over to MTN!
9:52 AM

Our DEV team is working on this matter. We get activations from MTN not our systems. ^Anita
10:05 AM

And what about your control panel not reflecting proper delivery status of order?
what's the point of a system that is not correct?!

Eish. How did you even get a response from them?
