Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

09:30

Courier just dropped off my sim...

09:45
Inserted it into my B618 router in a location I know signal is strongest (tested with a PAYG MTN sim) ....configured the APN as advised and lo and behold says "no service"

@AfriFella @AfriMan Just tweeted Afrihost =let's see how long my provision will take.,,,

It can take a couple of hours to get activated. If I'm not mistaken, we get a delivery confirmation and then the activation gets submitted.

I think it can take up to 4 hours, but usually one or two is all that's required.

Have you checked the MTN coverage map linked at the start of this thread. It may be more accurate than the 3rd party ones like Afrihost....

Our coverage map should be the same. If they make any changes, that is pushed to us to update within a day or so at most.

I don't think coverage is changing daily, so you should be able to rely on our map.

What bothers me is that last week I saw on the Afrihost website I got coverage in my area. That was also confirmed by a support agent per email! Now when I checked again to place my order suddenly there is no coverage and the support agent also confirmed no coverage. This is not very convincing at all. What will happen when I order the modem deal only to find out there is no connection at all!

That is very strange. It could have been an error in the coverage areas submitted to us that has been corrected - but that would be very unusual :(

3 hours...
Control panel still shows order in blue, not green. Not active nor any data provisioned.

Not lightning...1 hr and no acknowledgement even on Twitter...tried Whatsapp 15 mins ago as well...still waiting for a hello.
Mine took more than a day to connect, and that's when the real problems started. :D

Did you guys receive the Antennas with your B525 ?
I did the migration a week ago, My device got delivered today without any antennas. I asked my neighbor (who I also helped migrate) and he also did not receive any antennas. I still have my old antennas but just wanted to make sure.

Still waiting on a red connection also but I will be patient :)

What antennas? You mean the ones you get with the b315 - you dont need them.

I don't think anyone received any antennas with it. Pretty stupid if you tell me but think its cause they got the modems cheaper without the antennas.

Wonder if you can use an older modems antennas?

I was really hoping for a miracle when I got home just now, but no such luck. “The profile is invalid”.

Looks like we’re in the exact same boat. What’s the message you’re getting on the router?

Mine did that but it was my APN. I didn't set the new APN to be the default. Or it could be a different problem with the same error message.

Is this warning for real? We plan to use this at our holiday house in Dwarskersbos. I was hoping I could set it up at home in Stellenbosch and let my folks take it that side.

Makes sense. MTN is limiting the number of fixed LTE customers per tower. Likely to keep speeds up because tower bandwidth is shared with MTN and MTN Fixed LTE users. Once a certain number of fixed LTE users are reached per tower there is no new signups allowed.

Here is some FAQ they are providing MTN stores when selling MTN Fixed LTE deals and I would think they apply the same for ISPs.
