Is there one yet? Should we create a dedicated one?

So far the following routers are supported but it has been suggested that any Cat 6 and above router will work.

  1. ZTE MF286
  2. Huawei B525
  3. Huawei B612
  4. Huawei B618
Trying it out in an unsupported device or mobile phone will result in it being blocked!!!

Well Supersonic/MTN blocks the SIM card after about an hour after putting it into any other router, regardless of whether it works or not. Not sure whether its the same case with Afrihost, but I have a strong feeling it is...

Hmm.. that 150gig options looking good...

but only trouble i can forsee is cancelling my telkom product...:X3:

How long does it take for the sim card to be activated? I received my sim card Monday morning, this afternoon it's still not activated.

Contact them on the whatsapp support. They are generally quick there

Once activated please do some test for us. Speed, ping etc...

Does this require configuration of an Afrihost APN (like Supersonic)? Or can I just pop this into a router and use standard MTN settings?

The WhatsApp support told me to wait for 48 hours for the sim card to be activated. That's not correct. You need to enter the Afrihost APN - "ws.afrihost.fwa".

I only got that after almost 2 days of the red light and finally emailing support.

Initial speed test:
Ping 35
Download 85 Mbps
Upload 25 Mbps

Just got my mother one of the Telkom LTE sim only offerings..after checking her network coverage. Delivery took about a week.

Decent price + bar the occasional short network unavailabilty or red light on router, consistent 20-30Mbps DL speeds 24x7...so so far no complaints really.

I cancelled the Cell C 20GB package I had her on (which was due to be discontinued soon anyway) and signed her up to the Telkom 20+20 ...and for a cheaper price and more data.

For Axxess the APN is ws.axxess.fwa

Huawei B525 / Huawei B618 / Huawei B612
  1. Connect to your router via LAN Cable or WIFI
  2. Open your Web Browser and type 192.168.8.1 into the address field
  3. Select Settings and enter the default username admin and password admin
  4. Select the Dial-Up option
  5. Select Profile Management and then New Profile.
    Enter the following:
    • Profile Name: MTN
    • Username and Password: Leave these empty
    • IP Type: IPv4
    • APN: ws.axxess.fwa
    • Click Save
  6. Select the new Profile you've created and then click Save and Apply.

Only pop the sim into the router when you are at the location you are going to be using the service as it will lock onto the closest tower. If you move, you'll have to cancel and sign up for a new service.

That's good to know. I've been thinking of moving away from Telkom LTE due to slow speeds. I won't ever run out of data on the R100 gig package either.

Why good to know if it hasn't been your experience?

I put in the correct APN 24hrs ago and MTN/Afrihost Have not activated my SIM. Spoke to afrihost on whatsapp and they couldn't even help me. Told me to wait 72hrs before they can help me. Woow. Tip: go with Telkom-FIxed-LTE since they are not tower locked (for now)!!!!!

@AfriMan please help or comment. Thanks

Just ordered myself the 30+30 MTN Fixed LTE from AH....have tested the signal using a cheap MTN sim I purchased at Pep Stores during AH's 1Gb free promo a while back and it's far stronger (> -80db) than my current Fixed LTE Rain signal which is tower edge (< -110db) at my residential location...v v weak - although strangely I do still avg 5-10Mbps DL's most of the time.

Hoping to smack at least 20+ Mbps dl's with MTN and for R100 less a month and 10Gb extra...who can complain.
Time will tell!

I've been testing using the MTN Afrihost prepaid sim using B618 on fixed mobile tower (confirmed via map (it has fibre backhaul and a diesel generator for load shedding)) - average of 50 down and 20 up.

Wise man like myself.
Don't like nasty surprises at my age... not good for my BP and pacemaker

/jokes aside

Only thing that I cannot confirm is what happens during Eksdom cuts...Rain still worked (Vodacom tower probably) BUT... MTN may not.. that would put a real damper on things, hence my decision to keep my fixed Rain LTE month by month until I can confirm...
