Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

@Afrigirl & @AfriNatic,
There hasn't been any update since the 29th. Please continue claiming it's a 'technical problem,' though every poster here has clear evidence their service is being throttled.

Normal MTN SIM cards work fine, but only Afrihost users are facing this issue. This further proves it's an Afrihost problem, and no one seems remotely interested in resolving it.
It's the Afrihost APN that's affected, which is managed by MTN... And from my experience with MTN, resolving issues takes forever because of the many departments they have.

16 days and counting? Afrihost just needs to find the right department and all will be resolved?

Hi.

We understand the frustration this has caused and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, we have not yet identified the root cause of the issue. Please rest assured that our team is working tirelessly to investigate and resolve it, in collaboration with MTN.
The problem is that this is not an acceptable answer. I have been FIGHTING with Afrihost for more than 2 weeks now. I reported the issue first on the 13th of January. At first I thought I was being throttled, so I bought a faster package (from 50Mbps up to 100Mbps). Nobody would give me an answer and I had to find out after numerous emails that there's a "network issue".

I expect we'll all be compensated accordingly, or given some form of discount on next month's package pricing because we're not achieving 10% of our paid speeds? Specially since there seems to be no answer and no solution?

Morning

I want to start by apologising and I know that doesn't mean much because the service is still degraded but I really mean that.

I want to provide more details about the issue at hand and be as open and transparent as possible.

Yes the issue experienced is some sort of enforcement but it's not from our side. We have removed all enforcements on Fixed LTE to make sure this issue is not on our side and clients with uncapped data on the afrihost apn also confirmed this saying they are not being throttled after reaching the fair use policy limits. We did this as part of our troubleshooting.

The only APN currently affected is ws.afrihost.fwa

We are in constant communication with MTN and their vendor, Ericsson, to find the root cause, as it's still unknown at this point. Other APNs we have under our brand are Afrihost, ws.air.mvo, and all the Axxess APNs. None of them are affected, yet they go through the same cross-connects, use the same switches, and use the same IP handset pools.

If our suspicions are correct then at midnight today the speeds will return to normal. If that is the case we have considered deploying more APNs to share the traffic load to prevent this issue from occurring again.

We are working on this and I apologise for the silence as proper feedback on the root cause and a permanent solution are not yet available.

Yeah as a corporate client they a service manager at MTN who helps with scheduling everything for them or relays the information between 2 parties...

If that's the case, it means us users who are paying for a service is being intentionally given a much lower service speed - which is completely unfair. It also means that while I'm paying R599 for a 100Mbps package, I am getting 10Mbps speeds and I would expect to get at least half the difference in credit (or discount) for the upcoming month, because I am nowhere near my package FUP.

I've shared the same suspicions before.
If true, Afrihost and its users are being held hostage by MTN.
I have to question if this will become a regular occurrence. If MTN can make a unilateral decision like this, it can happen again at any point in the future.

Definitely not fair and we will have an internal discussion regarding that but if true it means the issue will likely reoccur next month and we need to get a permanent fix asap.

Indeed and that is our focus. Finding a permanent solution so it doesn't happen again.

Well will post the speedtest here tomorrow morning.

On the one hand I really hope it is the case that everything just works tomorrow morning. What ever caused the issue like people said. It might just happen again.

I really do feel for afrihost and the clients.

Sure as hell this is costing afrihost money and clients at the moment. I hope for the best

MTN has found the issue in conjunction with their vendor partners. An emergency change was just completed to mitigate the impact. Kindly test again to see if there is any improvement.

The change is not completed yet. Once it's done I will share some more feedback on what went wrong. Apologies for the issues experienced.
Really happy for you guys! can't wait to read what happened

Holy crap. Suddenly I'm getting 97 down and 37 up. SOMETHING is fixed, all right.

Can confirm. 20mb lte uncapped getting 20mb
