Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

To be honest, I'm OK with swapping over if they had 5G in my area. However, when I signed up, I was forced to buy the router cash and now my network speeds are ****. I just did a speedtest, I get 20 down and 4 up, and it's a 100Mbps package. I'm getting 20% of what I'm paying for.

Huh, at this rate it'll be cheaper for me to get a capped package at 400GB per month than continue on this current package. Things to consider...

And another post. I just checked, the website states the package if I buy it now is R639. So will be price be R693 as per the email, or R639 as per the website?

Huh, seems like someone read my post and decided to fix it. You're welcome.

Been sitting with the service a couple weeks now in the Eastern Cape. It only gets 20mpbs despite paying for 100mbps. Which seems in line with what I've seen on this forum. I am becoming a Starlink activist.

Hi.

At the moment, all 4G devices currently paired with active MTN LTE packages remain allowed and will continue to work as usual.

Unfortunately, we are unable to change or override MTN's policy. The new device-linking rule is applied at the network level by MTN. This only affects you if the SIM is lost or damaged and needs to be replaced, because the replacement SIM won't reconnect to the original 4G router.

If you haven't had any issues with your current setup, no immediate action is required.

@Afrigirl @AfriGuy Please add a Mikrotik router to your 5G approved list.

Many of us have our own networks/routers already, and we don't want to introduce thing such as:
- Double NAT (which would degrade gaming experience etc.)
- Another specialized router that can't be repurposed later (Eg: when the device gets blacklisted, due to SIM getting damaged, as you stated above)
- Something that doesn't receive such consistent and easy-to-install upgrades as RouterOS.

Personally I will not consider another wireless option where I cannot repurpose the hardware later.

I have plenty of routers from all networks over the years, and none can be easily repurposed as a WiFi AP, for example.
It is a huge waste of money, and also contributing towards our unsustainable throwaway junk society.

Has afrihost stopped offering capped pure fixed wireless as I notice one cannot buy that option on line and if I try to upgrade my 3 capped accounts i can only upgrade to uncapped ??
When did this option get removed as it appears to only have changed today?

I understand that don't offer that option anymore and never sent any notifications of this.
also one cannot upgrade or downgrade anymore even if one has had several of these accounts for several years and also no 30 day notification of any of these changes.
I hope afrigirl can help as if I had known this I would have upgraded my one account yesterday?

Hi.

Please note that all capped Wireless packages will no longer be available for new sign-ups or for package changes (including upgrades and downgrades). Existing clients currently on capped Wireless packages will not be affected by this change and may continue using their current packages until further notice.

If an existing client chooses to change their package, they may only migrate to an uncapped Wireless package. Please note that once a client has moved to an uncapped package, it will not be possible to switch back to a capped package.
