Afrihost New Network Feedback

Remember when you pinging bras.afrihost.com, you're testing your local Telkom BRAS, so the fluctuation could be on your area exchange :(

Any suggestions what I could do (i.e. testing) to verify if it is indeed Telkom (obviously when the spike occurs I can switch to my WA account and re-do the ping test, but ............. these spikes are so random :()

They normally pop up once in a while and then only stay for 5-10 mins at a time.

Prior Afrihost switching over to the new network (from the POC green), my lag spikes were much worse - usually there all the time during peak periods.

It could have been a combination, we know our network wasn't at it's best at high demand times.

Right now, there is not that much traffic - until businesses clients get online.

Why is your first hop so high though. Something happen on your local network - maybe downloads or updates?

The fist hop are not the problem if you look back to last night testing then you will see that over multiple accounts on different lines I could not even get speeds of more than 2mb some was stuck at 1mb

It's definitely showing that the source of the latency could be on the local network. It may not have shown on a single traceroute, but that's why it's always good to run a few traceroutes to get a good idea or MTR, so that you have a better picture.

Not sure about last night, but if you're getting those speeds now, we need to first eliminate the latency on your local network :(

Morning

I restarted my router last night, and rebooted.. A netgear router.

Checked clientzone it says my latest IP address is 169.0.245.111

Is this right. Capped 4MB line

That looks like one of our new IP's - I would say all is well. Are you happy with what you're experiencing?

I can't complain about a thing at the moment. But will monitor and revert should that be necessary.

Both afrigreen and afrihost realms point to the same core network. If you are using the same username (on both realms) then you're literally on the same policy on the same network :(

It's virtually the same account.

so how do you explain the difference in speed then
your new network was not so great last night even after midnight

Both your @afrihost.co.za and your @afrigreen accounts are now running on the exact same infrastructure, on the exact same ADSL network and will use the exact same routing.

At this point we will need to look at speedtests or traceroutes to figure out where the issue is.

Tested both @afrihost.co.za and @afrigreen a few times this morning to compare.
Afrigreen distinctly faster with lower latency for me.
Could just be timing, but sticking with AG for today's work...

Will compare again this evening/tomorrow.
