Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Not open for further replies.
I've changed my DNS settings. And all other changes that Afriman has suggested.

The slow speed at the time was across multiple ISP's but that was only for couple days.

All the testing I've today shows the problem of downloading and being unable to browse only on Afrihost accounts. I've tried both Afrigreen and my normal Afrihost business account.

I've tested on Web africa account today and was able to download and browse simultaneously.

Tried downloading a torrent now. Torrent downloading at 700kbps and I'm able to browse.

So whatever problem I seem to be having is only related to direct downloads where I can't browse and download simultaneously. So far anyway.

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but is this browsing issue present on all your browsers?

Speed test shows 1.4down up and 500up which is bleh even for a 2mb line

I have just had 2 disconnects ingame in 3 minutes on the so called green network
Looks like you are aggresively dropping packets on a business uncapped account :/
And no , I don't torrent at home. I may download , but I use other mechanisms

That throughput isn't all bad for a 2Mbps line, the packet loss is concerning though :(
Have you noticed this across the board or only in certain games?

Network still very stable. Downloads run at full line speed. YouTube doesn’t buffer even when playing at HD resolutions.

ps. How would I decrease latency on the line?

Problem is the POC is routed through Johannesburg. Adds extra latency as you would have to route to joburg and back to cape town for international/local.

Thank you, didn’t know that it would have such an impact on latency.

Are you using the default DNS servers for AfriGreen? Sounds like it could be your DNS that isn't responding as quickly as it should be.

For the moment the latency will be a bit higher for our Users in the Cape, but this is only until we start the full roll-out of AfriGreen, we'll be deploying IPC in the East and South as well.

Afrigreen is totally meh in Cape Town tonight

There is a lot of latency on that connection... We're not busy with any changes at the moment, so your AfriGreen should be running at full steam. Could you switch back to your regular Afrihost account and see if you are getting that same latency please.

I switched off the PC calling it an early night...

If it does make any difference I was told by one of you guys that our exchange was upgraded and that we still need to be moved to the new MSAN but other structural upgrades needs to take place first... Timeline unknown...

Hmmm, that could definitely have been causing the latency. When Telkom moved my line across to a new MSAN, my connection was unusable for a few days.

Mine has died too, getting 30kb trying to stream on a 10Meg line.
Now down to 14Kbs, Time to switch ISP, my wife wants to watch her show.

Gaming is quite unstable. Tends to be fine for a while and then just disconnect entirely.
