Hi guys

Trying to get all feedback/ tests consolidated into one thread for our network guys to sift through :)
Please add your feedback and test results to this thread. Another will be created for Afriblue testing.

You sign up for POC testing here. We're sending out details in batches. If you haven't received yours yet please keep checking your inbox.

If you are having issues with your current Afrihost ADSL account please post in the relevant threads:

FAQ

This is listed directly from the mail - if you've signed up you'll receive all of this. Just having it posted here for reference points.

What DSL Package will I get on the new network?

You will get exactly the same product as the @afrihost.co.za username you submitted. For example if you have a 100GB Capped account with us you will have exactly this on the new network too.

Can I still access my old DSL account?

Your old DSL account details will be locked once you've connected with your new account. If you would like to switch back to your current DSL account, please get in touch by emailing [email protected].

What if I use my DSL account at multiple locations?

If you are accessing your DSL account from multiple physical locations (e.g. Home and Office), you need to update the access details at ALL the locations to ensure one of the locations doesn't stop working.

Should I expect issues on the proof-of-concept network?

We will be adjusting the network as dictated by the needs of the clients testing out the network and as such there may be moments where things don't work 100% as expected. But the goal here is to end up with something that delights and exceeds the expectations of all our clients – which is why your feedback will be so important to us.

If you are accessing your DSL in the Southern or Eastern regions (Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth etc.) you may have slightly higher latency. This is due to traffic being routed through our Northern IPC in Johannesburg and back to your location. We will of course have multiple geographic IPC locations once we finalise our network.

Another area where there may be issues is if you are using any geo-location services which use your IP address location to deliver content. Although we have sent through updates of our new IP address range to all the IP address databases, in some instances it can take a while to fully update worldwide which may lead to issues. If there is anything that affects you please let us know.

Where can I do a Speedtest of the new network?

We suggest using MyBroadband's Speedtest at speedtest.mybroadband.co.za. This is an externally controlled, unbiased Speedtest run by MyBroadband.

So it starts. Has it been confirmed that this specific POC is on the VoX network? Believe I read that somewhere? If so, when does blue go live, which is on CyberSmart? Or have I got that wrong?

All the best Afripeeps!

Are any of you getting NO internet on the Afrigreen network? Can't even ping Afrihost.com. Client zone sees the connection though when I check via my phone.

Browsing (page load times, etc) - seems much faster
Video Streaming - streaming using kodi/osmc on raspberry pi 2 - no buffering streaming 720p video...finally after many months of struggling to play HD content...will be a happy chappy if things remain like this

HTTP Downloads - using eagleget downloader...average 400kbps downloading
HTTPS Services - getting around same speed downloading from cloud...
Email - no problems

General - this is what afrihost used to be like before mtn.
My account is not shaped any more which is great when streaming on kodi...previously had to wait ages for cache to be full before playback but watching my 3rd 720p tv show now and no buffering, no waiting 20 minutes before playback...:)
don't download torrents so no feedback on that....
