I've been struggling with this problem for the past few months, basically ever since I upgraded to a 10 meg line. I'm with Afrihost as ISP, and I've reason to believe that that has something to do with the high ping (500 ping) I have pretty much constantly been experiencing in CS:GO matchmaking. The reason I say that this has something to do with Afrihost, is because I've met another player on in MM a while ago that had the same issue, and he also said that he was with Afrihost.
I should also note that I don't always get 500 ping, but about 7/10 games will have this issue.

I troubleshot our ADSL line by going to the afrihost site and using their ADSL tester there. It gave all green results (that means the adsl was working perfectly, apparently :/), but the Signal-to-Noise ratio of my connection to them was 6 (and it says there that anything below 6 is cumbersome). I don't know if this might be an issue as well?
I've tried to contact them multiple times, but each time they just say nothing is wrong and that they can't find a problem.

It can't be the CS:GO servers, because most players obviously dont experience this, and I never had this problem while I was still on my 4meg line.

Please if anyone knows what the cause might be and how to fix it, leave a reply! It will be greatly appreciated!

Read the other Afrihost feedback threads and then switch to another ISP when you realise you're not alone by a long shot.
I recommend Crystal Web

+1 crystal web

Ill have to give them a try. Are they relatively new? Haven't heard of them before.

Check out other ISPs with a test account.

It's quite possible the problem lies before or beyond your ISP - if so, it'd be silly to move for the wrong reason.

I also experience bad pings in CS:GO with Afrihost. WebAfrica account runs fine, but WA have never replied to a single email or ticket in my effort to sign up with them. Crystal Web seems to have it down, so I'm with them from the 1st of May. :)

I've never made a test account before with another ISP. How does one go about doing this?

If it's not available directly off the site, then you can normally email support and ask them for one.

Btw, I also moved away from Afrihost lately. Also due to issues with gaming, but on the Xbox. It's basically unplayable with Afrihost due to continuous disconnects, and party chat doesn't work, but works perfectly on other ISPs. Webafrica seem to be a good alternative, just a bit pricey for the capped accounts.

It's been especially bad today. I was in a matchmaking game and my packet loss was shooting up to 80%. It was impossible to play. I would walk somewhere, screen freezes and I'm dead. Try shoot someone and they disappear. Ended up quitting mid match and switching to my spare Web Africa account and rejoining. Packet loss went down to 0%.

OP, Im with AH business, would you like me to test the ping in a server?
