Not sure who can help with this.

I am moving flats and going a floor above. I know i have to cancel my service and apply for a new one. The issue here is I am currently paying R1567 for a 200Mbps Octotel Pure Fibre. If i sign up for a new service then i have to pay R1827 for a Octotel Pure Fibre. Spoke to the retentions consultant and they say that my only way or i must go to a different provider. I have been with Afrihost since 2011 from adsl to fibre and have used many of their other services over the years!

Am at a lose here other than moving to another provider, any recomendations on another ISP?

Yes same proivder same building and only octotel

Looks like i am going to have to cancel and move to a new ISP as no one not even the head of fibre can assist!!

mixed reviews (some very happy, some very unhappy) on Cool Ideas, but doing some price comparisons today I did notice they offer 200/200 at R1399/month

Sorry about that. Existing services have the reduced rate and unfortunately we will not be able to apply the reduced rate on a new service as the new service comes with a install fee and activation that is also waived as part of the promotion. :(

Thanks its unfortunate as a custoemr of 9 years it will be my last month with Afrihost and will go on my list of providers to not recommend!

I'm sorry you feel that way. The fibre ISP space is very competitive and I'm sorry we could not match our pricing. :(

Would rather lose a customer, than retain one for the same rate he is paying now for the same service in the same complex? o_O

The problem is that ISPs have to pass on the cost of the fibre installation and monthly fee to the customer otherwise they make a loss. A lot of ISPs are offering cheaper packages by effectively subsidising part of the monthly fee in the hope that they'll make it up later on. But how many ISPs has this forum seen come and go over the years that start off with great pricing, and then run into problems later on because the margins are so thin that they can't cover their costs and end up going under. The problem here is actually Octotel, not Afrihost. Octotel is the one charging the installation fee, and Octotel is effectively the entity dictating how much the final monthly fee will be.
