Hello,

I am actually starting this thread on behalf of a friend.

He has a package with Afrihost. He uses the following router:

Huawei WS7100

The ONT is making the authentication connection and the router is just acting like a bridge set up.

The problem is that whenever my friend connects to the WIFI network, he can surf online and do everything he needs to but he gets this annoying pop-up every time he connects:

Clicking on the GET HELP button he sees this info:
1723109003964.png

What he does is he just ignores this message and carries on with his day but if he closes the laptop lid and comes back, the wifi-reconnects and he sees this pop-up every time.

Additionally, he sees on his WIFI connection "No Internet" even though he is able to surf online without any issues which is strange to me. He also sees this "No Internet Connection" on his mobile phone (Android) even though he can access the internet.

He tells me that he has been on the line with Afrihost twice in the past. First time for 3 hours and the second time 2 hours and he eventually had enough and wants to move away now.

How can we fix this issue? Does anyone have any ideas?

Who is the FNO? As it seems like the router needs to be configured for DHCP as the error message states

FNO = Vumatel

We tried a different router as I didn't want to fiddle on his router to avoid any further issues.

I tried a Huawei WS319 basic router and made sure that it was set in DHCP mode. I also tried BRIDGE mode but in bridge mode it renders the entire internet offline.

DHCP allows the internet connection but has the exact same problem.

It will need to be in DHCP mode, must of been a configuration issue when they installed, @Afrigirl should be able to assist, try pm her, she will most likely need details such as your friends email address associated with his Afrihost account, should hopefully be sorted quickly

Yes, its strange though because he did have it fixed by AH in the past after the 3 hour conversation and then it started happening again and he was online for another 2 hours and he never got it fixed and just gave up. I think he might have got so angry that he has moved over to RSAWeb but he still sits with this pop-up until RSAWeb has finally taken over.

I personally would never move to RSAWeb, not a great reputation from what I have seen online. Never dealt with them personally
I would either say Afrihost or Cool Ideas, as their support on the forums is 100x better than contacting Afrihost directly via Whatsapp or phone

Yh well, unfortunately AH has upset this friend of mine so much that he feels AH is a swear word now.

This problem should be simple to fix and sadly not even the support was able to assist him.

Is this Vumatel Aerial or Trench?

If Vumatel Aerial, you can connect with WhatsApp to unmap the router and then you can reconnect it and do the activation to relink it.

Router must be set up as DHCP.

If the router was not linked correctly, when on Vumatel Aerial, the MAC could cause an issue as their system will cause gated access.

Try MAC clone in the router settings:
Log into the router
Click on "Connect to Internet"
Under MAC Clone select "This PC" and save the settings.

Restart router and ONT and go to activate.afrihost.com and follow the steps.

Hi.

Most of the time, this error is caused by the router MAC address not being mapped. It is possible that we have mapped a particular device instead of the router, which is why the activation request would pop up for each device that connects to Wi-Fi.
If you have his details, you can drop me a PM and I will check and advise accordingly.

So what youre saying is a person can NEVER buy their own router without always reaching out to your support to have it remapped. That seems counterproductive.

Why would an ONT lose its mapping because Afrihost fixed it and then it started happening again.

I will ask my friend if he is willing to take a call from you but he is not a happy chap at the moment.

Why setup a bridge?
We were just testing different modes as we couldn't get it to work.

No, clients can use their own routers and don't need to contact each time. As long as the client visits the activation page to map the router.

Mapping is lost if the client switches to a new router or during troubleshooting they connect to the ONT and activate from there.

Well, the client never received a new router and it just started happening one day.

If you can tell me the steps to sort it out for him I will do it

I use my own router and I'm with Afrihost, all you have to do it setup the WAN port to use DHCP and plug it in the ONT.

If you changing routers all the time, Afrihost's servers/ONT will get confused. You need to turn off the ONT for at least 45min to clear the MAC address, then plug in the router.

The only time I saw the error on the screenshot OP posted was when someone set up PPPoE on a DHCP connection.

Hi @Afrigirl i have been having issues connecting. I reset my Huawei Ax3 router after connection issues where my WiFi was selectively connecting to apps and websites. After factory resetting the router, I changed my password and reconfigured. The connection then immediately breaks and thereafter takes me to a Huawei Login page where I have to enter only a password, and the password I had reset (even if I set it to my mobile number) does not work. It keeps saying I should use the password set for the main router. I only have one router and one ONT device. I tried connecting the ONT directly to my laptop to access internet, and it still takes me to this huawei ax3 password login page. They have already replaced the ONT box but the problem persists. The WiFi login page even shows up when connected without the router, and the WiFi settings are off. I am not sure what to do anymore. I have contacted customer support but they cannot find a solution. I need this to be resolved as soon as possible as I work from home.

Disconnect the router from the ONT and then do factory reset.

Do not reconnect yet.

Connect to the router and set it up as DHCP.

After doing the setup, do not connect to the ONT yet.

Log back into the router and go to More Functions.
Find the TR-069 setting and turn it off.
Save everything and unplug the router.

Connect the Lan cable from the ONT (LAN1) to the routers WAN port (next to the power plug)

Turn it on.

Go to activate.afrihost.com and follow the prompts.

Should be fine.

If you can't map it, log back into the router. Click on Connect to Internet. Enable Clone MAC and select your computers.

Save settings and try the activation page again.
