On a 4mb line obviously. Anyone else?

Got Afrihost 4MB on Saturday and also haven't had great results yet.

First speed test (on Saturday night) was like something for a 384 line, second test (Sunday morning) was more like a 1MB line.
Did a final test late last night and it was actually about 2.9 MB

I'm using a 10GB shaped account with afrihost as well and getting normal speeds on that one.

The most likely scenario then is that I've exceeded whatever they deem to be "fair use" and they've reduced me to dial up.

Uncapped (but not really) FTW!

Sounds like it. i cant see how much I have used because after the 100GB that I had it does not show any more, just a box with a little green corner.

Surely they should let you know if they restricting you in anyway because of usage?

@rabbiddog, in the customer control panel, there's a Bandwidth Monitor icon above where it shows your usage. Its with all the other icons....

I had some real teething probs with my line, but now seem to be running full speed. I'll post my speed when I get home :)

Im sure they would. Gian mentioned they would contact you to see what would be the best way forward if you had really heavy usage....

They don't HAVE to let you know anything I guess. I'm sure I'll be receiving an email soon though. "Hi, this is afrihost, you're abusing the uncapped service yadda yadda yadda".

Soooooo... What am I using the account for?

Online Backups
Youtube HD Streaming
Streaming Porn
SEO Software such as Tweetadder, senuke etc etc.
Local Gaming
iMacros web automation
Synchronizing my work and home pcs
Solving pi to the 4gabillionth decimal and helping the world find all those super cool prime numbers
etc etc etc

As I recall the faq states that if you are using the uncapped in conjunction with an "automated tool" read: utorrent, newsleecher etc, your account may be suspended or limited or whatever.

So yes, it's good for a few gigs, but still no true uncapped. For whatever you want to use it for

automated tool? Its not automated -I tell it what to download - if it downloads anything else automatically, I'd be pissed :wtf:

thanks :) just found it.

I am sitting on 132.526GB, of which is 32Gb was used in the last 3 days to test the uncapped account (most of which was yesterday 18GB) which may be construed as abuse :erm: but it is worth testing.

Nokkof maby get your line tested?

I have 384 and speeds have been normal so far and pulled a couple GB. Ping and jump around on BFBC2 though :(

Have you guys considered that ISPs could be prioritizing traffic to sites like speedtest.net? Would give the user a good indication of service levels that are not really there. Or have I been watching too many episodes of the X-Files?

Trust me. I can DL at full line speed from http and ftp when i pull down MS iso's.

I was not looking and did it again . I think that the torrents are messing with my posts:(
