Seems Afrihost is getting a lot of abuse lately and would just like to start with the fact I use them for all our ADSL lines and uncapped bandwidth and have no issues.
Recently we started getting some mail returned and it was all from domains hosted by Afrihost rejected by Spambox their internal filter:
SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:
host mx2893595.spe.spambox.co.za [196.38.95.213]:
550 The content of this message looked like spam.
There is no contact details for Spambox directly so contacted Afrihost support and after 3 emails to the first level was referred to a "senior administrator" who's first reply was:
I have understood your concern. Please note that spambox is used to prevent spam mails and other unsolicited mails. It will not reject any legitimate mails. I will get back to you with more details. Please hold on.
This was the final reply:
Please note that our spam box is very strict. They will reject the email if it contains any spam like contents it may also reject the emails if it is send from a infected server. Our spam box is working based on some rule. Sometimes some genuine emails may be detected as spam because of some matching spambox rules. In such cases, you can whitelist those sender mail addresses, so that they won't be blocked any more. So I suggest you to contact the recipients and ask them to whitelist your email account.
They were never able to tell me definitively why the emails were rejected and this was their grand solution. Personally I host with Hetzner and it seems using somebody dedicated to a single task provides better results.
