I am on a 4mbps uncapped package, line is capable to 10mbps, I have never seen speeds faster than 2.5 mbps. Is this normal, my shaping is 18.8% download and 6.2% psp

Very heavy shaping at the moment due to high demand, they have ordered extra IPC capacity which should be available in the new year (the interim capacity they got helps, but seemingly not THAT much, unfortunately).

I am using them and I get super fast downloads. If I queue 25Gb to download at 10PM the next morning when I get up they are done - every single time. It could be local IPC congestion though - I live in Sandton.

I'm jealous. Queue'd about 50Gbs of stuff a week ago on torrents which is well seeded, only about a quarter of it is done. I'm switching ISP's at the end of this month. Mweb at R540 is much better value for downloaders than Afrihost at R400.

Good luck with that

Yeah, that's completely normal with Afrihost. In fact, you should consider yourself lucky to get 2.5Mbps. I had a 2Mbps account with Afrihost, and my downloads were usually in the 30-50kB/s range on good days. Browsing was dead slow, pictures coming down line by line, just like with my old 33k6 modem. In other words, if you do anything but watch cats on Youtube then Afrihost probably isn't the ISP for you.

No offense buddy but really ?
Move to MW - i DARE you. What utter utter bollocks. thats a bigger joke than the EFF and FF+ combined !!!

I do however will share that I believe the uncapped AH option is not optimal for DL, though it FAR exceeds MW experience.
I couldnt handle the shaping (still +/- 4gb a day) and upgraded to Business on a 1Mb line and rocking it with already around 125 at 15Nov and projected to +/- 250Gb for the month (avg 8.5gb a day). I dont use torrents though.

I am happy and as long as I have this type of experience, I will stick with AH for a long long time.
I couldnt get away from MW fast enough. Signed up and was rocking with AH in 20 FRICKEN MINUTES dude.

And again, please switch to the throttlers and let us know what extreme pron feels like!

How would a 1 mb Business account compare with 4mb uncapped, I average around 170gb per month

With the current shaping, if you like to download, a 1Mbps business account will be better. Back when there wasn't much shaping on AH home uncapped I averaged 200GB on my 1Mbps line

This is with a Afrihost 10Mbps Business uncapped account: utorrent.jpg . I get these speeds all day, every day. If I limit downloads to 8Mbps I can still run perfect voip. Here is my speedtest result: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3106464363

Ping test:
Pinging mybroadband.co.za [197.242.89.170] with 32 bytes of data:

This account is perfect in every way. I came from MWEB and its simply not comparable. get the business unshaped account - it's worth it!

I think it depends on your needs and how you use your 170. I dont think the 1mb Bus is good enough for HD streaming but lower res, ya.
But if u wanna dl then a 1mb bus will suffice.
good luck
