This was sooo funny...

I was having some issues with my overall connection speed so i emailed the 24hr support mail and logged a ticket, within 5min I received a reply

"Hi There,
Trust you are well,:)

Please not that your account is currently being managed due to our shaping policies looking at your last 30 days of usage which is currently sitting on 70 Gigs,

Please note that we have a solution for this that is allowing us to migrate your account over to the IS network where the management policies are less severe as it is a bigger network,

It can be done instantly at no cost to you and your speed will return to full 4Mbps speeds,

Thanks for the mail,

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance"

So I got new login details and then went to http://www.speedtest.net/

This was my result: LOLOLOLOLOL:D:D

First test http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/album.php?albumid=1053&attachmentid=6873

Second LOL: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/album.php?albumid=1053&attachmentid=6869

Third OMG: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/album.php?albumid=1053&attachmentid=6871

All is back to full line speed but dammit what the %#$@%$# happened here?:wtf:

Speedtest sometimes fcks up. Its just a glitch in the measurement....the line isn't actually capable of that speed.

Clearing browser cache fixes it usually.

Yeah. Clear cache, restart browser and test three more times.

Well it's all pretty meaningless, what you should be worried about is the shaping they do on the IS network.

Afaik it's the whole top 50% of 4mb users that will be shaped/throttled pretty severely. But if you're only doing 70GB a month it could be good for you.

FYI, I spoke to a adsl support tech @ afrihost yesterday and where told that their capped accounts are now enabled for 10mbps. I peaking at 6mbps with and average of 5mbps.

@Forge. I switched to afrihost/is a coupla months ago. It's pretty good, I have same bandwidth and d/l around the same as you, monthly.

It appears as though this 50% claim is a ruse and that it doesn't take much to be throttled. Certainly the usage figures on their website (IS) are false.

We can only wish for speeds like this, I was with MWEB 4Meg basic uncapped and it started to annoy me.
The shaping was awe-full...couldn't even stream 240p anymore.

Where can i get a detailed usage report on the web now...the bandwidth indicator on the clientzone doesn't show me daily stats anymore:wtf:

"Due to your package change, this functionality is temporally disabled"

It only shows me a total usage, so far 25.922 GB since my first post...please compare
I don't think our ecxhange in ORKNEY will be upgraded soon (10Meg) @w1tw0lf

So far I have no complaints with Afrihost.

Torrents doing well over 200kB/s
Youtube streaming 720p for just a few seconds
Http very fast response times, no timeouts or delays
Online gaming internationally (CODMW4 - 230ms ping)
Local gaming ping very low (20-40ms on HON)

Only prob is HDD space...sheez cant seem to keep up already using like 3 Terabytes:D:D

Thanks for all the comments

Could be, currently since they put me on another network i have done about 26Gig...all i want now is a way to download using news servers as mweb's news server was dead for me 2-5kB/s if it worked at all.
