Hi

Can anyone that knows anything about cisco routers please help (cause NOBODY at afrihost can) I have a 800 series cisco router and I am trying to setup my static ip with L2TP I have got to a point where the router picks up my static ip on the virtual interface but is still using my dynamic ip so I am missing a command or my routing is wrong.

Do you perhaps have the specific model of the modem that you are trying to setup the Static IP on.

The 800-series Cisco modems have had issues with L2TP Passthrough, and in the past we've only managed to get the L2TP-based Static IP to work by having a server on the network dialing-up with Static IP through the modem.

This has nothing to do with L2TP passthrough, as the router sets up the L2TP tunnel itself.

Your problem is here:

ip nat inside source list 1 interface Dialer1 overload << You are NAT'ing over the Dialer, even though you have a static route over the virtual interface

To fix it:

clear ip nat translations *
conf t
no ip nat inside source list 1 interface Dialer1 overload
ip nat inside source list 1 interface Virtual-PPP1 overload
end
wr

And voila, it should work. This has been covered here btw:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...t-Static-IP-Setup-on-a-Cisco-800-Series/page2

FYI don't even try to get support from any ISP in SA for Cisco config, you wont ever get to the people that actually know how to configure or set them up, and they do not support it.
